Medication: brand name or less expensive

Last month when having a couple of scripts filled I was told that both would be available in 'the less expensive brand' next time I had them filled (I think both must have still been under copyright or whatever the drug manufacturer version is).

Today both scripts were filled again and I was able to request the 'less expensive brand' receiving the Terry White branded medications... and paid the same price!

Feeling a little peeved here.

No, I am a wuss.

I'm going to try our discount pharmacy and ask first next time (thanks for the link anyway, Donna). They have always been the same price no matter where I have bought them in the past.

My husband recently went to a Chemist and was in shock when they told him how much, he said WHAT! and they quickly reduced the price, they just try and get away with it.

:^O Don't worry, so am I and probably would not have said anything either. I always say no to generics anyway, as I agree with Mugs, no matter how many times they say it, it doesn't work as well. I don't care if it is psychosomatic, Ill pay the extra to feel better. LOL!

Re: Medication: brand name or less expensive

The generics are supposed to be cheaper - usually are

My OH was on a certain medication and once went into a chemist we dont normally use. They wanted to charge him an unbelievably high price. When he challenged them, their answer was that it didnt matter what they charge because anything over the PBS price you'll get back from your Health Insurance anyway.:O

That is appalling

I assumed it would be cheaper, especially after being offered the less expensive brand. Anyway, I know what to ask next time. Can you really claim the difference from your health fund?
