The new Cabinet certainly vindicates former PM Gillards statements regarding "Men in Blue Ties''
one female minister. ms bishop.. the rest are men in blue ties.. dear me, more than half of the population represented by 1 person.. Ms Bishop.. misogyny ++++

One has to ask why it is so important what gender or even what species is allocated to a position if it is the best suited to that position?
For the life of me I can't even see the point of Labor questioning the government on how it runs its internal affairs. Is that all they can find to oppose??
Bit silly huh ?

It does seem odd to me.
Is it Labor questioning this or just the supporters of this forum?

It isn't Labor that is questioning it - but society as a whole as it extremely unusual. Therefore the 'why?' question is very valid.
I should also point out that the Liberals own members have questioned this.
And what people are questioning is not why haven't more women been promoted (although this is also a valid question given that there is pool of talent just lurking at the door of the cabinet) but what does it imply of the Liberal Party that there are so few women wanting to be/encouraged to be a part of the organisation.

Tony Abbott's words to that young female worker in an otherwise male workplace come to mind ..unfortunately
"you must be the most popular girl here'

No, everyone with an ounce of fairness is questioning it. the notion that merit is the prime motivator is rubbish. polling told them women are easier media targets, and they went on to prove this with a little help. they arent willing to risk the same reaction to women in their cabinet. take Mrs Mirabella as an example, she didn't even make it.

LIBERAL Party elders have been told to come forward to help fix the gender imbalance in the party as Julie Bishop was described as a "token woman" in Tony Abbott's new Cabinet.
The Prime Minister-elect unveiled his ministerial line up on Monday, with the foreign affairs minister the only woman in his 19-strong Cabinet.
The lack of women in the top echelon of his government has been condemned by the Opposition, in the community, and even by some within Mr Abbott's own party.

You'd think they'd have more important things to worry about.

Tony Abbott says there are women knocking on the door of cabinet.
Sometimes I wish I was a cartoonist. I can see the picture now - a heavy, metal studded door with a plaque on it saying TONY'S CABINET, a group of women beating their fists on the door and a male face peering out through a grille.
The caption would read: (in true blue, patriotic, Aussie style)
" **BLEEP** OFF WE'RE FULL."

Or, STOP THE SKIRTS!
