"What a disgrace!' Melbourne primary school bans Mother's Day - replacing it with International Families Day in the name of 'diversity'
A Melbourne primary school is ditching Mother's Day celebrations for an 'International Day of Families' in the name of diversity.
Moonee Ponds West primary school, in Melbourne's inner west, announced it would 'not be holding a Mother's Day' in a newsletter sent out to parents last Friday.
The school's principal said it would be ditched for 'more inclusive' celebration.

all days created to be money spinners for various retail outlets.

Lots of schools hold Mothers Day and Fathers Day stalls as fundraising- families donate food, gifts, etc and sometimes kids make cr*p (cough) craft then the kids buy something and give the present to the parent..

Yeah, let's make mothers less important and change it to families day.
Good role modelling for the kids - not!
Smacks of se xism IMO

I used to teach & I can tell you this sort of garbage used to get on my nerves.
Maybe I am best out of it as I believe there is now a push in schools to ban teachers from using the words girl or boy.
I see it as plain stupidity-trying to deny factual detail. It's a bit like the past where maybe people were racist so they tried to stamp that out by making out there was no such thing as different skin colour or race.
Obviously there are different skin colours, nationalities & sexes. Those aren't evil things in themselves, it is only bad if someone uses them as a means to put down another person.
It's a shame it has come to this. Mother's day is Mother's day. Either have the stall at school or make the cards, or don't.
We always got around this in classes without any help. Some children don't have mothers living with them for one reason or another. Those children always just made a card to someone else who was special to them-grandma or dad or aunt. It's not that hard to be inclusive.
