My Mums update thread

This thread is dedicated to my Mother and her recovery.

Photobucket

On Monday the 4th June 2007, while holidaying in the UK with my Father, my Mother was struck by a van while crossing the road.

Mum spent 88 days in various UK hospitals before finally being brought home back to Australia on the 30th August 2007.

She is currently in The John Whittle Nursing Facility with brain damage

I have set up this thread to keep you all updated on her condition and her improvements and hopefully one day, Mum will be able to read it.

Re: My Mums update thread

Hello there Amy, I quite often light a candle for your Mum at church, and I often have a quiet cry for you.
It has been such a long harrowing journey for you.
I think I said to you once that you have been a daughter to be so proud of the way you have handled this.
As always many blessings to you and yoursโ™ฅ

Re: My Mums update thread

Dad says Mum is starting to come good again. I thought she might when the weather got better.

The terrible thing is, i think all of us (me, my sis and dad) are all a bit bummed by this.
Will it be another full spring and summer for her? And then another miserable winter? And then another year and another year and another year etc.
Will it ever end?

Re: My Mums update thread

I don't think it's terrible Amy: you want the best for your Mumโ™ฅ
Perhaps you could speak to a Palliative Care specialist? They help care for people with life-limiting illnesses & their families.

I doubt there is one in Dubbo. There isnt even a physiotherapist in the nursing home.

Re: My Mums update thread

You could try this if you're interested, Amy:

Dubbo Base Hospital Palliative Care Service
Myall St, Dubbo 2830
phone: (02) 6885 8757 fax: (02) 6885 7918

Jane.williams@gwahs.health.nsw.gov.au

They should be available to see your Mum if that's what you all wanted.

Piggy is right Amy, they are worth a try. A nurse at our hospital told me to get in touch with palliative care for help with hubby, because they are not just there for folk that are dying.

Re: My Mums update thread

thanks piggy, but the Dubbo Base Hospital have actually been of no help to us at all.
When Mum first arrived there they were very pushy to get her out of the hospital and into a home as fast as possible.
The "specialists" there have been very unhelpful and in some cases, quite rude to Dad.
Once a patient is booted out of their doors, they offer no help or support to them anymore.
Lourdes Hospital also offer Palliative Care in Dubbo but they treated Mum and Dad terrible. They assessed Mum very early on to see if she could go into their care for rehabilitation. They walked in the room and told Mum to lift her arm, when she didnt, they walked out and told dad "No, she is not ready for rehab. She will have to go into a home".
