My day

After several hours during the week clearing and cleaning up a messy garden my day started like this before and after 002.JPG

Re: My day

Polks, I love your planters Smiley Happy I think they are very "happy" flowers, and put on such a lovely show.

I had a heap of them back in Taree, in the sunniest spots in the garden as they are tough plants once established. They have some growing wild in the parks around here, but they seldom get a good show of flowers as they keep getting mowed.

Re: My day

I guess he/she will arrived when she is ready B3    ... I was like that with my last baby, she was 5 days late

Spring is starting to arrive, my gardens are looking great, patches of colours everywhere now, all our hard work has certainly paid off

Busy top dressing the veggie gardens ready for Spring planting,  the strawberries I planted are powering, as are the cabbage, peas and chinese cabbage  ....   Loving this time of the year, makes it some much easier to get things done, before the heat arrives.

Re: My day

Morning (just) all.  A few spring-like days lately, but becoming overcast and cool right now.  It's been a long period without rain

Been doing a bit of spring cleaning around the yard,  chick-weed picked and shared around the neighbours' guinea pigs and aviaries. Rinsed and filled all the bird baths and troughs.  And thawing the body, a bit like the blue-tongued lizard at the back door who suns himself between the bushes.

The coldness of this winter has really been miserable - I need sun for feeling  lively! I don't know how people in intense cold and dark seasons cope.  Being born into it and not knowing any other, I suppose.

See ya.

Shame that Freddie left but I hope she is happy with whatever she is doing.
I should be starting a new garden sometime around October. Nothing too intense and definitely no palms.

I hope she is happy too.  I think she would be disappointed that the intention and spirit of her thread has not always been maintained, the main reason being condiment obsession.

We look forward to hearing how your new garden goes, Azure.  Your experience will help to make it perfect.  My gardens have always been trees and shrubs with meandering paths in between.  No grass at all.  Remember I asked for suggestions to brighten up my cement area.  After seeing $15 priced common plants at nurseries, I went to a flea market and bought $2 ones.  I had a part screen put up and I am happy with the result.

That looks really nice Polks and the slatted area is very practical! Love those little plants, they look happy!

My pool certification was done today and while all went to plan, I have 2 small areas where the gap under the fence is 12mm........ instead of 10......... so my son in law is coming Saturday to take care of that with a cement and paver mowing strip. He is a good boy!

The pool gate was all good but on closing, if held 4cm away and let go, wasn't latching. Son in law WD40'd that and it is perfect, so hopefully the second inspection results in approval.

Pool Safety is so important.

Re: My day

Thank you for your last statement.  Although some poo poo this research and the laws, the results are amazing.  Drowning of under fives was the main cause of (accidental) death 40 years ago, even greater than traffic deaths.

This is going to be my new veggie garden - it's a down size from what I had before, but we have less space available here, and with my back being the way it is, probably a much better size!

Now just got to get it filled with soil and some manure, and I can plant my spring veggies Smiley Very Happy

I think he did an awesome job, as you all know he was standing behind the door hiding when they handed out handy man skills, so this is HUGE!

I really like that idea, raising the plot is good for the back too! Not sure I will be growing veges but if I do, that is my plan, water will not be an issue as there will be tanks and reticulated water, barely any cost involved where I am going.

Know someone with a deep pond. They are going to fence that too.

Re: My day

Been a busy few days here... OH managed to fill my new veggie garden with around 3 tonnes of garden soil - then promptly came down with some lurgy and spent the next 2 days in bed Smiley Sad

He made it out for his 60th birthday dinner - he picked Mexican and we had a lovely evening! Just family , but it was fun Smiley Very Happy

Nothing planted as yet... Still need to add some manure, and rig up some kind of anti dog system before I can actually plant things!

Waiting for the weather to warm up a little more, too.

The fressias I planted are budding up - not long until they burst open - I can't wait to see the colours and smell their lovely perfume.

Re: My day

Good morning

B3 I tend to mix my sheep manure through the soil before I add it to the garden, I find it breaks down better this way, I then let it sit for a month or so before planting, I find doing it this way, causes less "burning" to my veggies. A good layer of straw on the top works wonders as well ....

The strawberries I planted a cpl of weeks are all doing well, starting to get some flowers on them.

Everything is "dog proofed" here, I really dont need their help in my gardens lol

I love freesias, I dont have have any planted atm but I do have 60 of them waiting to go into the garden next Autumn The B shop was having a bulb sale, I rarely buy bulbs, but couldnt resist buying these.

Looking like a great day here, so off to the garden soon
