My day

Morning everyone.  Sun is shining here.

SharliHeartWell I got it almost right - just exclude Caroline.

After more rain over the past 4 days, the ground is still saturated and soggy underfoot.  When I walk in the gumboots, the water rises above the soles.  Walking on water!

Took a detour after shopping to check out the area after the storms.  The amount of debris waiting for the green pickups, is astounding.  AND....one of the fallen gum tree bolls was 3 metres in diameter.  Apparently, the Council doesn't take stumps.??????

I read about "Stumperies" on an English gardening site - might be the way to go for that landholder.

BC how are your animals?

Bushie, what sort of cuttings and bulbs were amongst those you received?

I've potted up some of the dreaded Palm seeds that had shot up.  And today is the day for thinning out my Billbergias and potting the best offshoots.  Might trim some lower branches of a couple of small trees to allow for light  for underplanting.  Got lots of Cathedral Begonias and Ajugas that should fit the bill.  Picked up a few old wine cask metal rings that should prevent them from spreading into each other.

My native violets have gone berserk and (without taking my own advise of collaring them) started growing into the lawn.  Might have to widen the garden bed; or something.

Oh and .....remember over the past few seasons how wondrous everything grew and flowered?  Well, a neighbour has a silky oak that scattered  its seed, I have had about 200 baby ones coming up!  They are travelling to the compost heap as quickly as I find them.

Hello to the decorators, gardeners, animal owners,  and owners of "musical chairs".

My day

Morning everyone. I'm happy to say that Lily is now back to normal. She's sound asleep, snoring with great gusto. lol.I wish that I was doing the same  because I feel so tired today.

DEB, I have a couple of acacias and genistas that keep throwing up seedlings. I use to have Native Violets but they ceased to exist a long time ago. I do have white, and, purple common violets that smell beautiful.

I love it when i am given or are allowed to take cuttings. It does feel like xmas when that happens.

The handyman came late yesterday evening to give a quote to replace the fences [it will be in my letterbox in a few days]and it turns out that he can do everything else[ except for stump removal and possum eviction] that I want done. We are on the same page when it comes to what will function and look the best so I am looking forward to having the fences replaced; clothesline installed; the remains of the ugly veggie patch replaced; the cat enclosure built; the old chicken run removed and the house exterior painted. The property settlement money from my former ex should cover the cost of everything, if not, I'll have to sell my left kidney.

A wet and windy day here today - a perfect pajama day.

My day

BC Great news re Lily, it's always such a worry when they are unwell.

Pleased that you have found someone who understands how you wish everything to be done, makes it so much easier. Will look forward to seeing your "after" pics.

Hope today's high wind hasn't caused you too much grief, it's been a shocker of a day for many Viccies

DEB I would have "thought" that the council would have done more to help those affected by the storms, though it doesnt surprise me.  Bust time for you in the garden atm, potting, planting, tidying etc.

I imagine the ground will take a while to fully dry out, so gum boots are def on the agenda for now.

I have lost count of what my friend is sending to me, he keeps mentioning "things" he has added to the boxes. The will arrive here tomorrow afternoon along with some other friends who are setting off on a month's camping holiday and making us the first port of call. She has told me she is bringing me a few "bits n pieces" from her garden as well, plus another friend messaged me yesterday and told me she has mailed a whole pile or iris rhizomes to me, so looks like I am going to be a busy girl for a while.

Apparently these 2 boxes are filled up with bulbs, plants cuttings etc. etc It will be like Xmas opening them and seeing all my new "goodies"

B3  How is the unpacking/renovating going?

Tas hope all is well down your way

Stay safe Vic people and anyone else experiecing these high winds atm

My day

Oh Bushie! How lucky are you! BOXES of garden goodies... I'm positively green with envy Smiley Frustrated And cuttings and all!!

I suggested to the OH this evening that we turn an area along the fence and under some bottle brushes into a garden bed - it is a real pain to mow in there, and the grass doesn't grow terribly well so I'll be looking  for some nice shade loving plants.

Renos are continuing slowly... still doing painting *sigh* but I can almost see the light  at the end of the tunnel....

On a happy note, I went to Bunnings yesterday to get a new paint roller, and somehow found myself in the garden section Smiley Wink

They had some of those mega punnets of flower seedlings reduced down to $6! So of course I HAD to buy them all! (Only 4 punnets, 3 pansies and a snapdragon) Planted them all out that afternoon - I think they will look lovely if they all survive... on the point of flowering too!

It is blowing a gale here too - thankfully the whirlygig thingy on our roof that was loose and sounded like it was trying to take off with the whole roof whenever the wind blew has been repaired Smiley Happy The noise it made was unbelievable....

Stay safe and warm everyone!

My day

New flowers will be lovely, hope they all do well b3.

Been catching up here. I hate moving furniture. I get stuck in odd corners or pinned under things that weren't there when I started out.

Not been swimming...I've been "banned" as the AFL season is underway, and the players use the sea baths as part of recovery. It gets too busy, is the excuse :). So I've been diplomatic and taking exercise elsewhere.

Long walks in the crisp wintry air when not actually raining. Sleeping too much. Watching TV...The Rockford Files.

Bushie, your Miss Charlotte is beautiful.

My day

Good morning ๐Ÿ™‚

Cool and drizzling rain here this morning, looks like the wind has abated for now, hopefully it will stay that way, the past few days have been shocking.

It was great to catch up with our friends as we don't get to see them very often. My boxes of "goodies" have e safely delivered, so hoping to get outside today and start potting/planting.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable day ๐Ÿ™‚

My day

Good evening Dayers!

Bushie, I can't wait to see the spring photos from your garden, I think it will look absolutely lovely Smiley Happy

I think that all my seedlings have survived! Aaaannnndd the first of the freesias have sprouted up too, more have come up than I thought would - I am looking forward to their delicious scent in spring.

Reno update:  We have FINALLY selected the colour for the glass splashbacks in the kitchen! (yep - we make wonderful snap decisions in this family Smiley Wink ) So in about a month I can finally put up a photo of the finished project!

We are now starting to talk about ideas for the outdoor / patio area. This was originally made into a kind of an outdoor room with lattice panels as privacy screening - which is now in dreadful condition after the tenant's dog had fun chewing / pulling slats off, apart from the paint getting very tired. We have to pick external paint colours before we start..... can anyone see us having a problem there?? *tongue in cheek*

Think a lurgy has finally got me, feeling all achey painy since last night and just generally"off"  .... DYD is also feeling the same, so it must be a virus of some sort?

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

My day

Hope you feel better soon B3, perhaps your body is telling you it's time to relax for a day or two

Looking forward to seeing your kitchen renos, we dont make snap decisions here either, it's been nearly a yr since my new kitchen was installed and we still havent tiled the walls, mainly 'cause I cant find one that I like.

I love the scent of freesias, I havent planted any this season, they are on my list for next yr. There are little green spikes starting to appear where we did the mass plantings around the 2 ploughs, still heaps more to come though but a least **bleep** at start.

This weekend we are mass planting Jonquils, Babianas and Sparaxis right around the front fence line, they all came from my friend's garden, so not sure if they will flower this season but they will be there for the next one.

I hate choosing paint colours, far too many choices these days lol

The wind here as been shocking for the past few days, so I am hoping it settles down soon, 'cause its darn cold atm

Tas havent seen you around for a few days, hope every is ok with you and Mr Tas

Amber is there anywhere else you can go for a swim? or is it getting too cold now to bother?

DEB How is the "clean up" going? it looked such a mess up your way, am thinking it's going to take a while for things to get back to "normal"

Hope those i the cooler areas are keeping nice and warm, Winter seems to have arrived early this yr ๐Ÿ˜ž

My day

Brrrrr.   Cold morning here.

The Council aren't picking up "green" stuff from this area.  I think they have too much stuff to work through at the tip site!  I know it could be a fire hazard if its all piled up waiting.

I recall in the 1990s after a big storm in the northern suburbs they used the old Thornleigh brick pit as a collection/drop off point and about 3 weeks later a fire erupted.  And I recall reports of lots of chainsaw injuries too.

Anyway....the pile is still there on the verge.  I'm adding my trimmings now and then.  My bulbs have started to appear too; and so has a cat!  I'll have to add some wire hoops criss-crossed to the area - just like my pa used to do.   The ground is still saturated in the lower and shaded areas of my "estate".

Potting-up is complete of the palms, billbergias and a couple of layered cuttings of brunsfelsia and a few of other shrubs that I can't remember the name at present.

Tool maintenance/sharpening day today methinks if I can find a sheltered sunny spot.
