like how did she get to the states? thru imigration ect ect. who paid for the airline ticket?

She may of had a passport already if her family had been over seas

They don't do visas anymore.  You do an on-line application called ESTA -

Electronic System for Travel Organisation

I know at 16, she was not an adult but she wasn't a child either and must have known she was doing the wrong thing to sneak off. Must have had some inkling that sex might be involved.

Should have remembered that. I had to do the Visa Waivers for my family a couple of months ago..

Having travelled to the US on several occasions in the past couple of years - ESTA is only an authorisation to travel - one can be denied entry on arrival.

I think to obtain ESTA - one has to be either over 18 or have parental consent.

Crew of aircraft are always notified of passengers - under 18 travelling alone.

Entry into the US - under 18 & travelling alone - through LA??????????????????????????????

Even if travelling with ESTA - which is valid for 90 days or less - a return ticket is required.

Still begs a lot of questions as to how she managed it in the first instance.

doesnt this all kinda make a mockery of our so called security services that an unaccompanied 16 year old can fly to the USA and get through to USA soil without anyone twigging that shes doing this without any perental permission?

must have broken quite a lot of laws and rules on international travel.

its just sheer luck she isnt burried in some backwoods area of the USA or in the middle east as a white slave.
