Investigators are hoping that new information will help solve the mystery of what happened to Madeleine McCann.
The then- three-year-old British girl disappeared six years ago while vacationing with her family in Portugal.
Scotland Yard is planning to release a computerized sketch of a possible person of interest in the case.
Former prosecutor Wendy Murphy joined America’s News Headquarters to discuss the development.
"I’m not buying it. I think this is more PR than anything," Murphy said. "I think this is all related to a civil suit now underway in Portugal."
The McCanns sued the former police chief for defamation because he wrote a tell-all book.
Alisyn pointed out that the McCanns claim the Portuguese police never took the case seriously

Before they can be found guilty they would need to be charged? with something......
In Australia, the DPP has to prove you guilty........... you don't have to prove your innocence.
I wonder what happens in Portugal?

I think the idea that the McCanns killed their daughter, and then sat in the restaurant as if nothing happened, is just totally ridiculous. What is even more ridiculous is that they would have been able to dispose of her body in a way that it has not been found.
People who write those blogs are just pathetic sick creatures craving attention; I would not be even reading their ravings, if people read it that only feed them.
I just wonder how well the Portuguese policemen speak English, how much they understand. Lot could have been lost in translation. Like the dog finding; the handler could have said that the dog did indicate there was something and the policeman took is as if it was 100% sure that a dead body was in the room and the car. While in fact the dog probably just picked up smell of the child from all her clothing and her presence.
Dogs are very effective in finding decomposing dead bodies, in places like in a forest, or buried in a garden or under the floor in a house, but if there is buried dead animal they will also indicate a "find".

The Portugese investigation
1.Gonçalo Amaral
Praia da Luz in the Algarve
The Portuguese investigation also came under scrutiny because of the officer in charge from May until October 2007, Gonçalo Amaral, head of the regional Polícia Judiciária. A month after the disappearance, Amaral and four other officers were charged with offences related to an earlier inquiry into the disappearance of Joana Cipriano, an eight-year-old Portuguese girl missing since 2004 from Figueira, seven miles (11 km) from Praia da Luz. The police assumed she had been murdered, although her body was never found. The girl's mother and uncle were convicted of murder after confessing; the mother later retracted her confession, saying she had been beaten by police. Amaral was not present when the beating allegedly took place, but was accused of covering up for others.
In October 2007, after Amaral told a Portuguese newspaper that the British police were only pursuing leads helpful to the McCanns, he was removed from Madeleine's case and from his post.He went on to publish a book in July 2008, in which he said that Madeleine was dead and that the McCanns were involved. He was convicted of perjury in May 2009 for having falsified documents in the Cipriano case, and received an 18-month suspended sentence. The McCanns sued him for defamation because of the claims in his book, a lawsuit that was ongoing as of October 2013.
2. Alípio Ribeiro resigned as the national director of the Policia Judiciária in May 2008, citing media pressure from the investigation; he had publicly said the police had been hasty in naming the McCanns as suspects

they keep telling us they are innocent and that others are guilty
maybe that is because the police have cleared them of any wrong doing?
You really seem to be running with some crazy wild theories and ignoring the important bits like the police have stated the parents have not played a part in this.
Do you know more than what the investigative teams know?

its not so far fetched - ever heard of casey anthony, darle routier, susan smith to name just three on a long list who have murdered their children and carried on their lives...

The parents were with 7 friends at the restaraunt between 8.30 and 10pm. Surely all 7 friends wouldn't go along with a lie, if one of the parents was missing from the dinner table for a fairly long length of time. The lie being that one of their friends had murdered their 3yr old child...and the friends were happy to keep that covered up.
The hate campaigns for the McCanns arebased on them leaving their very small children unattended in a holiday apartment while they drink & eat with friends, I can understand that. It doens't mean the parents were involved in their daughters disappearance though.

Chuk , imo Scotland Yard are ignoring the important bits for some reason.
They seem to making up timelines and disregarding the one's that the so named tapas 9 have made and signed.
If they are different...there would seem to be some sort disregard to the Justice System by all concerned...not imo a great way to help this child..then or now.
If that efit was made some time ago ....why was it not broadcaste ? why the delay ?
Why were changes made to original statements made ...within the first weeks of this child going missing ?
Why is that not suspect ?
Why isn't all of that being told to the world...along with the theory we are being fed ?
Their Lawyer used one case to descredit the possibility that she may be deceased based on the sniffer dogs findings.
that one case the Judge did not feel that it was enough for a murder conviction (it can be though )...does that mean that findings of Keela and Eddie are totally worthless ? Why would it only be the 'murder charge' aspect that are/or others should consider ?
If this child isn't alive.....other children should be focused on.
the words Gerry said about the best thing that came out of court (2010) ...being that there is no evidence .
It seems as though he only looks at it from their side .

If your child went missing and was never found dead or alive, in at least 6 years.. would you just give up and say she must be dead lets not look into it any further, tell the police don't try and find the offender (maybe that person could abduct another innocent child if not caught)??????????????????

Whose side should he be looking at it from?. the abductors side, the police dept side, the anti-Mcann brigade side, his missing daughters side?
I am sure Gerry has had spoken a lot of words in the media in the last 6 years, you seem fixated on very few of them.

not very often missing children have the Govt spend that much on them.
further back there is a call for the British Gov to help find a child who went missing in Kos in 1991..the same way they are helping the McCanns ...this family feel they have beenn ignored
The McCann's have their own funds given by tax payers as well
