I have been buying things from op shops since I was a teenager. I love browsing through the weird and wonderful things you might find.
Some are better than others, sometimes it's nothing but junk and then other times you can walk out with bags of amazing things!
Who else here is addicted to op shopping, and which ones do you think are the best to buy from?

I took an antique mirror into salvos year ago. I just couldn't find a spot for it. The woman said they were happy to have it and would get their outside antiques expert to research and price it. No wonder there are no real bargains to be had anymore. It is for charity I suppose.

Katy--some shops have--the antique expert-bookshop man -retro clothes lady etc
crawling around in the back rooms each week or two.
These folk are not giving their time to held charities-just to get the goodies
themselves.-seen it in action-khow it happens...........................Richo.

Big change from when I had a B & M then.
When I did the rounds every week the larger op shops were
loathe to sell to me. I even heard one Sally manager say
to the volunteer on the cash register "No, don't sell to her -
She's a dealer!" Like my money wasn't the same.

Hi Richo. Yes it does happen, but it shouldn't. I know of someone who volunteered primarily to have first pick of what came in. Yes she did work in the shop, but she was known for cherry picking and should have been pulled up.

Your money is as good as the next persons. If you pay what they ask, then what is the difference? I once went in to the salvos buy a travel bag for one of my sons. He needed one to take for a work placement and wasn't all that cashed up. Found one, went to the counter and one volunteer said to another, oh that is too cheap, don't sell it to her. She sold it to me and apologised for the 'attitude'

Stawka--you were at the front counter--not loading up a car out the back.....Richo.

I'm pretty sure that op shop workers are not supposed to pick over donations before they become available to the public. If you know of someone doing this they need to be reported to the head office of whatever charity they work for.
