Re: On the subject of heroes

Someone who risks their life for others, even those they don't know.

At the moment all the firefighters come to my mind

But there are many selfless people we never hear of I am quite sure

Fidel Castro, Ghandi, Nelson Mandela to name a few, the reasons should be fairly obvious.

Re: On the subject of heroes

My Mum.

She is battling cancer and enjoying her life as much as she can.

She is determined to keep going for as long as she can, no " why me" hysterics, just a calm stubbornness to have her life.

She gets her nails done ( she only has one arm) and buys lovely handbags and shoes to match and jewellery.

She is at her best, at all times... what a woman 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Re: On the subject of heroes

While mine is not facing the same difficulties as yours beani, I would also nominate my mum.

She raised her 3 daughters on her own at a time and in a community when it was not the done thing.  She did so with dignity and calm and never, that I can recall, spoke badly of the man who had treated her despicably.

She is still young at heart and enjoying life to the full well into her 80s.  She inspires me every day of my life.

Scientists and medical practitioners.

That Doctor that invented that spray on skin for burns victims... she is the type of person I see as a hero...

Scientists that work year in and year out to find medical cures for cancer, diabeties, genetic disorders...

They are my heroes.

My elder sister who was the same kind of person. She told me she would do her best to survive until her sons were at least teenagers , and and managed to do so despite every day being a marathon for her. in her final year she was still hosting xmas for an extended family and working. (and smiling). to be as gutsy as she was is as close to heroic as it gets.

your mother sounds wonderful.

Re: On the subject of heroes

I think heros are the average 'man' in the street.  When you hear of what

some people have to go through to get through their lives and the

constant battles they have with sickness and loss and unkind fate  whatever it is, you can

only imagine  the courage they've had to draw on to survive.
