Is anyone here affected by the Optus hack?
We are not, but my daughter received a communication from them to say her bank details & passport details & also licence details I think, had been stolen.
The annoying thing is she is not with Optus. She has not been with Optus for almost 6 years. Why, then, do they still have all her records on file? Very annoying.

?? My CC actually a debit card) always has the same number. Only the ccv on the back is changed when renewed.
As for Messenger, yes, it's an app, but you had to tick the box to allow it access to your list of contacts - their phone numbers - otherwise it just doesn't work.
Of the people on Messenger I speak with - I know only 2 telephone numbers. That's it - numbers are not necessary through FB.
If you don't want a video call, then don't press the video symbol when you answer.
Obviously - but if being called via video - different.
Facebook Messenger uses the internet.
I have to agree with Mussolini on just about everything here.
Sorry Dom, but your head in the sand about being 'safe' is just not on.
I'm paranoid enough to not do on-line banking.

Really? How does that work?
So if I became friends with you on FB I could call you with no phone number required?

SpoilerAnd just to scare the pants off you - I do know your real name and your mobile number anyway. Mwahaha
Indeed you can if we're ' friends ' on FB.
LOL - you've had that for years.

keep your head in the sand - will help heaps.
oh so you use a desktop pc - technicalities will save you- that's some great comedy there.
"not sure what all that rubbish is about" - "nitwit" credentials on display - you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink - do you even know what a wi-fi access point is or a router which provides your internet access.
"Hack what"- pure gold right there.

Run along genius - you've already proved your comprehension to be wanting.

Genius - why thank you, but flattery will get you nowhere.
Not a very nice community member are you? Personal attacks, name calling, telling people to leave and run along....

Ah - lol - what has a wifi access point or a router to do with the point of my conversation.

I am not with Optus but can anyone who is remember ever being asked for a Medicare or passport number
when being ID'd over the phone.
I have never been asked for my Medicare Number or Passport Number when dealing with the bank over the phone.
Optus should never have kept this information stored at all as I don't believe it is necessary for 'ongoing' phone verification. 2 step verification should be enough.
Now let's just see if all the information we supplied to eBay when joining managed Payments is being stored anywhere. I seem to remember having to provide a passport number and/or Medicare Number but maybe that's just my memory playing up.
