Having one today and the other on Monday 😐 I know, I know, they are important and essential and we have to do it, but I HATE THEM :_| X-( :_|
How come they have managed to come up with a simple blood test, rather than a digital examination, for prostate cancer but we still have to have the cold metal treatment? ?:| 😞 😉

I agree with finding a woman doctor. Because of past medical problems, I have had so many pap smears - and still hate them. After the illness, I had to have them every 3 months for 2 years then 6 monthly and now every 12 months. I have had many doctors do them and it is the females that are definitely the best. I have also been told which speculum they need to use for me.

Pap smears are so important, because cervical cancer is the ONLY cancer which is totally preventable.
Unfortunately pap smears do not detect all cervical cancers. My young friend (34) passed away from cervical cancer in April. The tumor was too high for a pap smear to be of any use to her 😞

Very sorry about your friend, Twinkles. I was stating what my doctor had said to me.
Was it still cervical Ca? Had she been having tests regularly before? Not prying, just interested. Seems very unusual.

She was up to date with her pap tests and it was during her 2nd pregnancy that she knew something was wrong yet the doctors dismissed it:(
I'll send you a link to the site about it.....can't do it here as the button pushers always get busy 😞

these are important tests ....and sadly the younger members of society dont seem to get that ...
at work recently it came up ...and I said hope you all have had one recently .... not one of them had had a pap test .... one girl is 35yrs old ... and just ignored me totally .... but I have to say one of the other girls 24yrs old went and made appointment and had her first one two days later ..... doctor said it was good she had decided to have it ... she told them I had told her she should have them ....doctor was happy I was promoting them to others LOL
my doctor uses a disposable spectrum .... and its over and done with in short time ... doesnt bother me anymore ... at least I know Im doing the right thing ...
as to mammograms ,..... yes have those also ....and wish just once that some men had to have their bits checked under that ruddy machine .... then Im sure they would come up with a nicer way of doing it 😉

I know some women that wont go and have these tests, with the attitude that it *wont happen to them*.
In my mother's family she and all 8 of her siblings all died of different sorts of cancers.
So, I have tests for all the different ones, yearly. My mother died of ovarian cancer, twice a yr. I have a pelvic ultra sound and also the blood test for this particular cancer.
The tests are horrible, but I would rather have them, than get cancer and suffer like most of my family has done.

This is getting ridiculous! Now today's mammogram has been rescheduled, and I can't get another appointment until mid-January! Good grief!!

Lurker how frustrating! You want to get them done asap so you can forget about it.

I had my first pelvic ultrasound this year. It was not pleasant. Not one little bit. When it was over I promised myself I wouldn't go through that again. But it picked up I have a cyst on my ovary. Now my doctor wants me to have another damn pelvic ultrasound. :_|

Is there somewhere else you can go?
