Paris manhunt: 3 gunmen at large, 12 shot dead at Charlie Hebdo offices

No terrorist group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. However, an Islamic State militant praised the attack on the French satirical magazine on Wednesday.

"The lions of Islam have avenged our Prophet," Abu Mussab, who fights for IS insurgents in Syria, told Reuters via internet connection. "These are our lions. It's the first drops – more will follow," he said, speaking via an internet connection from Syria. He added that he and his fellow fighters are happy about the incident.

Mussab said he did not know the gunmen who carried out the attack, but added "they are on the path of the emir [IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi]....and our Sheikh Osama (bin Laden)."

Reports suggest that the cartoons portraying Prophet Mohammed published earlier by the satirical paper were the reason for the attack. The gunmen reportedly called out the victims by name, shouting: “We have avenged the prophet."

The religion of peace at it again.

would it be too much to ask to

stick to the topic?

Charlie Hebdo shooting: The victims

Ahmed Merabet served at a police station in Paris' 11th arrondissement, the neighborhood where Charlie Hebdo’s offices are located, French news reports said.

His death was captured in video broadcast on French television and widely shared on social media sites. The video shows one of the gunmen shooting Merabet outside the magazine offices, then approaching the writhing victim to fire a fatal shot at point-blank range.

He leaves behind a girlfriend.

Or was an easy target to be set up by someone else.

whose id card was left behind?

was it one of the brothers?

A poster back a bit said they found an ID card in the car.    It could be that he left his own card behind or it could be that someone else did the crime and left this ID behind to set up a fall guy.  Either way, the truth may or may not be revealed.

It was a mobile phone for a sim card thatHneef hadpassed on  to his 2nd cousin some time ealier when he left England to come to Australia. It was not used to trigger the bomb and his 2nd cousin was not involved in the attack but apparently had some connection with the man who was responsible (I think he may have shared a flat with the bomber and the sim card was found in the flat.)

i was asking about the charlie hebdo shooting

and the ID card left in the car.

There are various offshoots of this topic, one being the issue of cards related to a possible subject, it may well be as innocent as the SIM card was. Surely you can understand this?

The mods are capable of doing their jobs, no reason for anyone to be telling other posters what they can post, is there?

Dr Haneef is currently working as a doctor in the United Arab Emirates but wanted to resume his training and eventually work as a specialist physician in Australia.

On Friday, he told a press conference a litany of errors by the Australian Federal Police and the Federal Government had stained his reputation and career prospects.

And he said his treatment has damaged Australia's reputation for fair play.

"My career and reputation continues to suffer as a result of the events which occurred in 2007," he said.

"I have taken steps to rebuild my life and my medical career. However, I regret missing out on the opportunity to continue my studies and my career to become a specialist doctor in Australia, as I had planned earlier.

"My wrongful arrest and detention in 2007 was a traumatic experience for me and my family. It has impacted on all areas of my life."

"It is a fair place but recently because of certain episodes, this reputation has been damaged, especially in India, and I hope that by resolving my matter it will help repair the damage."

Thanks for that. Wasn't he prevented from returning to India when his wife had just given birth and was not well?

I'm such an airhead that I keep getting the topics mixed up, as well as the posters.  They seem so similar.   Smiley Wink

Can't blame others for doing the same.

I thought someone said one of those from yesterday left an ID card in the getaway car.

Oh MY! I thought this must have been Julia's thread.

I liked the old threads, the OP statement was always at the top of the page.

For those interested, there is an article in the Washington post on religious satire , with some pretty controversial comments from a U.S. catholic leader I don't want to post the link here as it contains some cartoons that maybe offensive to some.

The news are reporting that the youngest of the 3 men has turned himself in. Still looking for the 2 brothers though.

That's a bit rich coming from Brandis. The Haneef affair was nothing but a political stunt, orchestrated by Howard & co.to give them a much needed boost in the polls. It didn't work though;and from memory Haneef was awarded $1million in compensation. It should have been 5 times that amount and come out of the LNP coffers (slush funds).

Back to the matter in Paris. It's been reported the 18 year old suspect has handed himself in.
