People who do not vaccinate will lose $

From January 2016 parents who do not vaccinate their kids will lose up to $15 000 in allowances/concessions, except in cases of medical  and some religious reasons.

Re: People who do not vaccinate will lose $

Unvaccinated children have as much right to be in child care as vaccinated children do.

School is compulsory.

Unvaccinated children are the ones at risk, not the vaccinated.

They also don't test for immunity following vaccinations, so there is no way of knowing if all children are actually vaccinated.

The biggest risk factor are unvaccinated adults.

In a way I still think that parents should have the right to say no, but I also think that child care centres should be allowed to refuse children that are not immunised unless for medical reasons.  After all, you can't put your dog in a kennel if it isn't immunised and that is for the protection of other pets that they are looking after.

Wow, a four word slogan.. instead of three.

Does it count as four when two of those words are the favoured NO words?

You are right.  We were expecting too much.  Still three words.

Re: People who do not vaccinate will lose $

If a family, are not in receipt of Family Tax Benefit (A?, income too high), don't use childcare for their pre school aged children.

that means there is no deterrent for them ( no loss of welfare income) if they don't immunise their children.

Will other families in receipt of FTB, childcare rebate, say to their kids, no jab, no pay as they cart them off to the medical centre?

Strange slogan.

AMA President Brian Owler told AAP.

Dr Owler does have some reservations. He's concerned the policy won't catch parents who don't need the benefits and could lead to children being excluded.

Nope. We all had it wrong.

It's a super dooper, double decker 4 word slogan with a double and quadruple thrown in for good measure

It's -

No jab, no play

No jab, no pay

Agree, but even religious grounds can be a bit iffy.

It's not like it only affects the person or people involved, it can and does affect everyone around them or could at some stage, especially if you lose that herd immunity.

Just look at the outbreaks in the US recently, for deseases that should not have occurred.

God help if small pox ever takes hold in any great numbers of people,
that would be hard to stop.

What is your idea of herd immunity vicr?

The original concept of herd immunity was in reference to "natural" immunity.  ie; The immunity you aquire after contracting a disease and recovering.. If you had measles as a child and recovered like 99.9% of people who have had measles do, you've inherited lifetime immunity  When I was a child everyone got measles and recovered, it was NOT a life threatening disease for the average person like the media try to sensationalize it as these days)

The way I see it, approx 50% of the population are adults. How many of these adults are "up to date" with all of their shots? Most vaccine immunity wanes over time, sometimes it doesn't immunize at all.  There's nobody out there testing people after they have been vaccinated to see how well their response to the vaccine was.  So at least 90% of the population (adults and children) have to have immunity (either natural or immunized) for "herd" immunity to be an actual fact.  Because if adults aren't vaccinated then how can anyone say that herd immunity exists because of a supposed 90% vaccination rate.  (90% of all children does not equate to 90% of the "herd")

Unvaccinated children are the ones that are going to be spreading the disease in the child care.

And the other kids can bring it home to their younger siblings.  Higher the % of vaccinated kids lower the possibility of infection.  It is such a pity that these nutters started the anti vaccination campaign when they did.  Childhood diseases were almost eradicated, and now they are back with vengeance.  And ys it is a good idea for adults to get a booster now and then too.  I had them before my granddaughter was born, many people I know also have them.

How can a child who is not carrying a disease spread a disease? When it is a well known fact that the recently vaccinated will actually shed the disease they have been vaccinated against for up to two weeks after vaccination. Childhood diseases are not back with a vengeance.  Where do you get your information?

Super

Very well said.

Never thought I'd see great outbreaks of Whooping Cough, Measles etc in modern western societies.

Don't forget, the very young children, like the one who died can't be protected from the virus, desease etc,

hence the importance of eradicating it.

And I didn't think Polio would make such a comeback, so much so that it has been called "a public health emergency".

One of the problems is we have certain "older" generations who are not nearly as well protected as others,

often stemming from the start of this whole debate.
