People who do not vaccinate will lose $

From January 2016 parents who do not vaccinate their kids will lose up to $15 000 in allowances/concessions, except in cases of medical  and some religious reasons.

Re: People who do not vaccinate will lose $

Even the best cared for kids get sick and are usually contagious before the symptoms manifest. Az, you are a reponsible parent and had good reason not to continue on with vaccinating some of your children. It is for children like yours that the immunisation of others is so important. My kids all contracted whooping cough due to an unimmunised [concientious objector]child who caught it was not kept at home. His mother thought that onion infused milk would cure him. It didn't. He ended up in hospital as did a baby. My kids only suffered a mild dose because they had been immunised but were still very, very sick for a number of weeks.

I understand what you are saying.....................

However, I don't believe this current suggestion is in anybody's best interests. It has to be for everyone, not just some..................... high income earners and Religious objectors should not be exempt. All or none.(medical exemptions, of course)

I thought that it was very difficult to confirm by tests.  Did you have it confirmed?  I thought that people only got it once, although sometimes pertussis can linger for months, and can get worse just as the person thought they got over it.

Of-course, 100% of those who do not have a medical reason not to be done, would be excellent but 95% would do.  That would be a big improvement on the 70% or less that is in some areas.

Re: People who do not vaccinate will lose $

Back in the 70's the booster shot they gave the kids at school when they were 6yrs, made my son very, very sick ended up in hospital and drs. said no more injections for him, although he could have the polio one of a spoon.

When my daughter was born 6yrs later, the doctor (sons dr) said not to let her have the vaccination as it could make her very sick as well, so she only ever had the polio of a spoon.

During her school yrs, all the nasty diseases went through her classes and she never got one and neither did my son.

Since she is now 36yrs. she has since had all vaccinations, she is a nurse and needed them, and apparantly the ones today are so different to what they used in the 70"s.

Both my grandies have had their vaccinations, as we live in the Dandenongs where there are alot of hippies and they dont believe in having their kids vaccinated.

When Oliver was in grade 2 whooping cough went through the school, all the kids that had had the vaccination didnt get it, all the kids of the hippies did.....

I believe that all children should be vaccinated, except for medical reasons.

whooping cough is diagnosed by a nasal swab. I have had 5 confirmed cases of whooping cough in the past 14 years  😞

While I am not as sick as a child might be, i am very inconvenienced by having to have 2 weeks off work.
I just can not hold (despite booster shots) a immune status to whooping cough.

Re: People who do not vaccinate will lose $

I keep seeing in this thread the term "government funded centres"

as long as they are an approved service. It makes no difference if the centre is privately owned, community fundeed, profit or not for profit CCB and CCR can be applied. The government does not pay to keep a service in operation. If its approved it means its been rated and assessed

CCB has a VERY high cut off point so many many families claim it, not just low income and CCR is not means tested

CCB is not paid to a family, it is paid to the centre to reduce the fee the parent pays and CCR can be claimed by the parent or paid to the service to reduce the fee.

Good point, that was my bad. I should've taken that into account.  But it's also a problem if more centres start refusing unvaccinated children.  I honestly think that is discrimination.  The govt can do whatever they like when it comes to welfare and the people just have to take it, but they have no right (and neither does anyone else regardless of their own personal experiences) to enforce vaccines onto people.  Thats the difference with pro vax people, they will always tell you to vaccinate, even if it means your child will be damaged. Whereas anti-vax people will never tell you not to vaccinate, they'll say educate before you vaccinate.

The thing is Chuk, high income earners wont really be affected by the cuts for not vaccinating, whereas for low income families it could mean the difference between working and not working. (Whats the point of working if you have to pay out 3/4 of your days wage in childcare fees)  They are the ones who will be more affected by this policy.

Re: People who do not vaccinate will lose $

i have found what could a rather large loop hole in this. I would voice it as Im still looking into how it would work from a service POV, but it could get messy and fradulent for lack of a better word, if my thoughts are what they seem. Once again again the government have not looked at the big picture...maybe. Or maybe Ive missed how it will work.

Anyway, as it stands, should an outbreak of say whooping cough occur, all those who are not vaccinated are excluded from attending anyway, so those parents wouldnt be able to work during that time anyway. Thats how it is for SA
