He grew up listening to British radio which he preferred, as opposed to Irish, and has he said, that is why he had an affinity with all things British. A very charming and down to earth man, who had a knack for the of-the-cuff remark. His dry sense of humour is legendary. He hated working to a script, and hated rehearsals even more. As I am writing this there is an extended version of the News dedicated to him. Not for Terry the 'celebrity' status, he was extremely down to earth and self deprecating. He did a programme only recently where he was touring the country sampling different foods, with a London taxi driver. Absolutely hilarious, completely natural, and again, totally unscripted. Broadcasters who knew and worked with him, all said you never knew what he was going to say next.
He was also at the forefront of the charity 'Children in Need' and in the 35 years he spearheaded this, raised over ยฃ35 million.
Very, very sad indeed. Another individual utterly irreplaceable.
