Rainbows

Does anybody know if eb intends making a tool available to alter profile pics to include a rainbow, as facebook has done worldwide? The tool is dedicated to the U.S. amendment to allow same sex marriage that the whole world is meant to embrace, .. apparantly.  Supporters of this amendment can show their support by altering their profile pic to include this rainbow.  Would be great if eb did follow fb on this, it would be another great tool in deciding where to shop, and where not to.

Re: Rainbows

Thanks for your response sir - It was never my intention to campaign one way, or the other - far from it. It's none of my business what peoples preferences are but rather mine. My preferences are what matter to me and that includes where I wish to buy and from whom, I'm sure that I'm not an orphan in that regard. Sellers have their, special, lists which I interrpret as a form of preference - my preferences are different.

The intention of the post was to gauge members perception of how eb will meet this seemingly trending situation that has now extended to Google and, I think, Apple has something similar and nothing else. And Stawks, (I know your reading this) I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this apple.

Re: Rainbows

But that is the point I think some of us are trying to make. Just because a seller doesn't advertise their opinions with a gaudy gimmick doesn't mean they don't have the same opinion as you so you still can't make that sort of choice.

Let me remind of something, Australia is a Christian nation with good moral and family values. We are definitely not America.

Saying what ????

Some individuals and businesses, including myself, are happy to actively support social media (or non-social media) campaigns  images or symbols to indicate support for a cause or communicate a particular message or idea - such as attached to the rainbow.

These "gaudy gimmicks" that you reference maranock, are not new to our culture, social media is just another medium to communicate a sentiment or demonstrate support, others include

- Poppy for rememberence

- Pink Ribbon for breast cancer awareness

- Daffodils for cancer research

- Peace sign / dove / olive branch - peace

Re: Rainbows

While eBay do have a facility for profile pics they are rather small pics when displayed on the computer screen and are not used in the same way as profile pics on facebook, which I see more as an identifier than an avatar.

My pic looks quite dark and many might not know what it actually is.  So, here's a larger version for anyone who has ever wondered.  It was created by another forum poster*, and I have used it now for a couple of years.  There is a back story to this pic, but I'm not going into that here.

Re: Rainbows

I appreciate that you and other are happy to publically support campaigns, I am just trying to say that if Skyrider only wants to buy from those that place colours over their pics s/he might be missing out on items s/he wants from sellers who still support that cause but don't show it as publically. It is not a foolproof way of buying what you want, and sellers can always lie to get sales if that is all it takes.

In my opinion it is gaudy, just as the over used symbols for other causes such as pink ribbon. They attract an unfair amount of money for their causes while other, just as worthwhile ones, with less money to spend on marketing, miss out because many people are soo hooked on a 'trend'

Re: Rainbows

Apple has something similar and nothing else

I think Apple changed their rainbow coloured apple when gay pride

took the rainbow as their symbol

Could be wrong  -  (screenshot that bit, might need it later)

Does this mean the chinese sellers are inadvertantly supporting this

with their roses?

Do I hear a collective groan?

OP,   ebay is not facebook

Re: Rainbows

That's not how I see things - You see, once the colours have been  presented it makes my job just that much easier to distinguish where to place my preferences. eg. if the cat has something for sale and it's also what your offering - because the cat has made the rainbow call, and you couldn't miss it, and you haven't got colours flying, then my choice by preference, whether it be for either one of you, is staring at me. If, as you say, some might run the colours up in an attempt to increase sales, it could be that I'm not shopping at rainbow markets, and, vice versa.
