A group of young priests in Italy have thrown tradition to the wind and posed for a calendar that reportedly aims to inform people about the Vatican.
The 12-page document contains black and white images of smiling seminarians in various locations in Rome as well as a few pages of information about the Catholic church.
Photographer Piero Pazzi, who put together the calendar, said the men are all real priests and none had been paid for their modelling.
"I meet most of them on the streets in Rome and ask to take their photos," he said.
"Most are happy to be photographed after I tell them the reason for the calendar."
"Yes, the men are good-looking, but it is just a product, a way for people to be better informed about the Vatican".
Mr Pazzi, who launched the calendar in 2003, said priests from all over the world are welcome to take part in the calendar but add they will need to travel to Rome to be photographed.

Is nothing sacred anymore? I'm not a practising Christian and certainly not Catholic, but this is not becoming for the Church IMO!
This is surely the work of the devil!
Mr Pazzi! Is that a nom de plume of Lucifer?
Short for papparazzi?
So which one do you like best?

Wanna bet? Seems to me that when you're happy to be photographed for "Rome's "Hot Priests" Calender", you're at least aware that you're going to be appealing to someone (of either gender if truth be told!).
Cheers,
Marina.
Its not actually titled "Rome's Hot Priests Calendar" LOL
It is a Calendar that contains information about the Vatican. Naturally, from a marketing perspective, it makes sense to use good looking people. The campaign has worked very well. Everyone is talking about it. (the priests do not get paid to appear it the Calendar)
Didn't know that - took it all on face value without any research, but I'm really more interested in the discussion re "Hot Priests", and the reactions it all seems to have triggered.
Maybe if we all weren't so precious about our "Holy men",and their place in our community, we wouldn't have such serious problems in respect of abuse towards adults and children.
Marina.
You did not need to research. The information is in the Opening Post.

I am not quite sure if you know that the percentages of abusers within the church are actually quite low, in comparison to the wider community? I don't think it's about being precious..............it's probably about families/parents, having been too trusting in the past.

It's exactly that "Too trusting" part that I'm referring to when I say "being precious", and I'm more than happy to agree that it can apply to anyone in who's care we leave our children, not just clergy.
But in respect of the way some (admittedly usually older people) sometimes talked about "Father"...... I have one friend who grew up in a large Catholic family and attended to local parish school. At the age of about 12 he reported to his Mum that Father P..... had made some sort of move on him, his mother's response was to wash out his mouth with soap and send him to pray.
When he was about 18 years old, he went back to see Father P and gave him a hiding. Until she died, his Mum still occassionally mentioned "the day B.... went crazy and hurt poor Father P...." ) not their real initials. AND....she was so grateful that Father didn't want any fuss made - such a forgiving man.
My husband works in the field, and the number of times a victim has told someone, and has not been believed, or has is some other way "acted out", is astounding.
Sorry, didn't really mean to get all serious.

It's a serious matter. (maybe not for this thread though) Sorry OP.
That happened a lot, children not being believed, probably not so much now.................... hopefully.

This is what happens when people sit down at the computer, after getting everyone out of the house, and NOT having drunk the first coffee of the day. One tends to skim rather than actually read.
Note to self - Must try harder.

The Church doesn't get away with it............. not sure what you are reading....

According to statistics,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I don't make them up.
Less than 4% of priests are/have been accused of abuse between 1950 and 2002. Much lower than the general population and about equal to other Churches.
According to the 2001 Australian Census, the Catholic population was 26.6% of the total Australian population.
supporters?

โHello, everyone. This thread is getting a little off-topic.
Could we please bring the discussion back to the actual topic, and not get bitter and twisted about different religious beleifs.
Thanks!โ
