Sandwich thrown at Gillard...

the school supplies my daughter with a laptop every year. someone has been holding back ? not in victoria.

At my sons school it is only the senior school kids that get them...

my son got one early because he was in the top classes and has a disability so needed one.

So not all kids get them and then for some schools there are not enough loan ones when yours breaks down... and it does cost a lot to get fixed for some families on limited income.

I just watched an interview with the student suspended for throwing the sandwich, he reckons it wasn't him.  I think that interview has the potential to go viral.

Sandwich thrown at Gillard...

Today I am ashamed to be a Queenslander.

I don't like Ms Gillard, but she IS our PRIME MINISTER, and as such I am able to respect her for what she has achieved, and afford her the respect such a position deserves and warrants.

The behaviour of these children is atrocious (how many was it, I didn't watch the clip). If these children believe it acceptable to act in such a manner at this age, what hope do they have for the future?

The free laptops? I have a question about those. Our school didn't receive them either. I asked our school principal and we did receive the funds, but these were redirected towards improving the internet infrastructure within the school, because even if every child was given the lap top, the school's system would have been unable to carry the load and provide access. Some of the money also went towards upgrading the computer labs and increasing the number of PC's and all technology at the school as well, (now have completely interactive smart classrooms where each child accesses the interactive whiteboard from their mini interactive tablets during classes, so many more children benefited in this way. A program was also introduced called BYOD Bring Your Own Device. Those students who already had their own portable computers were encouraged to bring them and they were integrated with the school system, safe storage was provided for their devices outside of class times. Students unable to supply their own devices were able to purchase one at a heavily discounted price and an interest free repayment plan was established. For those facing special circumstances, arrangements were made so that they did have access to a device during pivitol times.

My question is, is it possible that some of the other schools whose students did not recsive their free iPads implemented and directed the funds similar to this?

As for Logan - it is not an isolated city - in 15 minutes anyone who lives in Logan can be in another heavily populated location. If they can't drive, the train system is good.

Logan is 1/2 way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast (they're about 40 minutes apart) so making excuses for these children's behaviour because of the area in which they live is a cop out. They do not live in an isolated community.

The fault, I believe, lays with society in general. A society that has enabled children to challenge authority and display disrespect for it.

Yes, Logan is a low socioeconomic area (although you wouldn't know this if you visited their very large shopping centre LoganCity) Rent is cheap, so my guess is people whose income is limited "migrate" there to live.

It is also a possibility that as such, many share similar views and adopt similar behaviours.

Hope that makes sense.

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

My son was in high school in Brisbane.  He didn't get a computer.  When we moved to NSW he did.  So, States vary.

Brisbane high schools had lap tops available to students during lesson time.

A sandwich???:^O

That's nothing compared to the insults and lies tossed at her during her Prime Ministership, and she's still happy, laughing and shrugging off the negative nellies :^O

do you have a link.. ??

And Crikey... an iPad is not a laptop...  so that is not what we are talking about..

and on the subject of bringing your own device.. that can be a really bad idea... for several reasons but the main ones are security, you need to make sure all devices are fully protected and also the programs the school actually uses are often paid for and not allowed to be put on personal devices...

John Howard had an idea... if you spent money on a laptop he would give it back to you at tax time.. I liked that idea... But Rudd said he would just give all kids a laptop because lots of families could not afford the upfront payment... But you are not actually given the laptop... you have to hire it out at our school.. costs me $150 per year.. and we give it back when he leaves..
