No danger of getting a red neck in a burqa

Yeah that's a good one Martini. In summer they wear shorts and a singlet underneath it. But to be in keeping with the tenets of Islam, yep throw a burqa over it. No one will know what lies beneath.

In other words, it's a garment of concealment. Required to be worn by women of the Muslim faith.

Umm yes. It is a garment of concealment for purposes of modesty. No one denies that. But to make assumptions that Australian Muslim women are forced to wear it by men is ludicrous.

Muslim women can wear what they want at home and within their own circle. They dress differently in company or if they leave the privacy of their own homes. In the same way I go about in just my undies on a hot day at home, but I would cover up if someone came to the door or if I had to pop out to the shops.

The level of cover-up is determined by culture, values, self expresion, confidence. Some Aussie women think that bikinis are immodest and THEY would never wear one. Some wouldn' think of going to the beach without a kaftan. Others are comfortable to parade in a bikini. The level of coverup is personal.

I've seen a police officer wearing a chador what is to stop her from wearing the full burka when patrolling the streets and pulling people over?

Has anyone else ever seen an Australian police officer dressed in such a way?

Are you saying that muslim police officers in chadors don't exist? I saw one recently.

No, she isn't saying that. She is asking has anyone else ever seen an Aust. police officer wearing a full burqa while on duty.

That's not news to anyone. The last sentence (in red) isn't accurate though. Do all Muslim women wear burqa/niqabs?
