Sineater - psst...in here

I just watched Materchef  US Season 5 Episode 1

(Thought I better start a new thread and not hijack the Australian one)

Plus we can add Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares to this one too.

Re: Sineater - psst...in here

at least her kitchen was clean.

most of them are horrendous.

But apparently, the cakes she claimed to make herself were later revealed to be bought in. Don't know how true that is, read it somewhere, or might have seen it on one of the many follow up spin offs (look on you tube) So maybe not

but yep - that particular episode is certainly full of moments that make you go

or maybe even this is appropriate?

Re: Sineater - psst...in here

Yes, the first video won't show for me in Australia, but I thought it might for the US contingent, so I could show Sin where i had seen to. It's only recently been made unavailable. Was getting weekly uploads until episode 9 - Think I missed some series though - I don't recall seeing more than the first 2 or 3 series - whatever was available on DVD - You tube is a relatively new discovery for me LOL

Hey Sin (and Pinau, of course) how about The F Word? All 4 seasons on You Tube.

Pinau, are you AU or US? And are you in hospitality? Have a special interest in Gordon Ramsay or just like these kinds of shows in general?

Re: Sineater - psst...in here

FTR - asked the Mod to edit my OP and put US in there so it was clear I wasn't referring to the aussie one - I wasn't naughty! Honest! He did it in the Junior MC post too, God love 'im

(Thanks Underbat)

Re: Sineater - psst...in here

hi pinau! welcome to the thread, pleasure to meet you!

LOVED the f word, but only got to see one season, our cable company was in a battle with bbc for 3-4 years, and we must got bbc america back last year.

i'll definitely look for all the seasons, and the other shows on youtube, hulu and netflix, thanks!

melanie, the blonde, she's a decent cook, but i don't think she could handle the daily grind of running that kind of kitchen for very long.

rochelle is KILLING me!! the girl is so talented, how on earth can she still be a complete twinkie???  i like joy and kashia alot, kashia especially reminds me of one of my alltime favorite coworkers.

scott seriously need to go,the man is worthless! and anton...omg...i'd strangle him inside 15 minutes. gabriel couldn't cut it running a kitchen, and i don't really think jason could either.

re the dressing up thing, that's why people didn't recognize me,i am SO not girly,i'm a cook! my real name is barri, pronounced with a long a,but similar to the man's name, and i have a very deep voice,so many clients who talked with me on the phone got a shock when they met me,lol!

the phrase was always"you're a girl!! and you're so TINY!!"  never fails to crack me up! i AM vertically challenged and rather compact, but i PROJECT 10 feet tall and bulletproof.:)

as for dish slug, that came from the temps. i had a core group who worked my functions for about 6 years, and they'd vote on who was kitchen slug  for the day. it's a huge kitchen, floor dutywas the main thing the kitchen slug had to handle, along with trash, pulling dirty stuff to the dishwasher, running equipment to the preppers and cooks and putting up deliveries. they run constantly, sweep and mop constantly,it's very tiring.

the first time i heard a temp yell hey slug,i was so mad! then they explained it to me,and their other phrases, like meatman.,veggiegirl, fruitbat, aquaman, tablemaster, stuff like that. they all pertained to the job you were doing that day, which was rarely what you did yesterday. and since it was a revolving crew, that was easier than remembering names, usually. it made sense,so i picked it up too,i am SO bad at names!

honestly ,i got away with way too much,in retrospect, lol! i'm very organised, very picky and very stubborn. but i'm also very fair, and very patient. and i call EVERYBODY sugar, honey, sweetie, darlin, etc.,which CAN be considered sexual harrassment. the guys couldn't do it,ever. my bosses decided that since everyone calls me mama,i could get away with it,and there was never  complaint, thanks be.

i also got away with bossing the bosses, because it was MY KITCHEN,and when you walk through the door, you are labor, just like everybody else.there were several cafeteria managers who wouldn't work there, because they weren't willing to let my lowly self tell them what to do,and how it needed to be done. their loss of overtime was their choice, arrogance and pride doesn't make you a dime. i'm going to have a hard time adjusting when i go back to work,i think!

i'm being told i have to go lay down for awhile,i'll come back later and post the list for you.

taste my religion! nibble a witch! 😄

Re: Sineater - psst...in here

Forty-five years ago, when we first got married, I told my wife that I would like to learn to cook.   "OK," she said.  "Go try to cook something."    So I did.  I decided to make some fudge.  I dilligently followed the recipee until I got to the part where you put in chocolate.  Now that's BORING, I thought.  I wanted something else, so I put in orange Tang Powder instead of the chocolate, and then followed the rest of the recipee..

The results were VERY STRANGE!  The dear lady has not let me into the kitchen since...  I don't even want to THINK of what Chef Ramsey would say about that one.
