Sineater - psst...in here

I just watched Materchef  US Season 5 Episode 1

(Thought I better start a new thread and not hijack the Australian one)

Plus we can add Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares to this one too.

Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

lol,no,i prefer barri. it's my real name, barrithy was a school nickname. i went to school in massachusetts, with a kansas accent,it was something my friends called me. but then,my friend margot was known as nugget(she was born in the yukon), and my friend elizabeth was known as littlebit(she was only 4 '6",still is!)

it'a always hilarious when someone facebook asks if barrithy is my real name, lol!

you're a friend,so you're allowed either one! 🙂

Awww, thanks barri, that's sweet. Heart

Speaking of nicknames, my parents tried to pick names for my sisters and I that people wouldn't be able to turn in to nicknames. They did fine with my sisters, but I'm not sure what they were thinking with mine! Over the years I've heard Polly put the kettle on, Polly want a cracker, Pollyanna, Pollywog....and on and on. I even had a smartalec co-worker call me polyurethane! ebay-laugh.gif

Oh well....they got two out of three right. Ebaywink.gif

You went to school in Massachusetts? Interesting, that's where hubby is from. Well actually, he was born a Georgia peach but his parents were originally from up north and moved back there when he was still a young boy. Where abouts in Massachusetts did you attend school?

So.....Masterchef. I've been watching it every week, but haven't had as much posting time. Sorry for the delay.  I am stunned that Cutter is still there and was surprised that Daniel and Jamie were in the last round of eliminations this week. I thought there were a few others that should have been there instead, but maybe Cutter has more talent than I'm giving him credit for. I just can't help but think though that he's getting lucky to a certain extent.

I thought both Jamie and Daniels cheese souffle's looked beautiful....but I guess Daniel used a bit too much salt in his. So bye bye daniel. I'm not sure if it would make it easier or harder to know you were leaving when it was that close.....

I was glad Jamie stayed. I like her and I think she has a chance to win, although it's going to be hard against Elizabeth, Courtney and Leslie. I think they all have a shot at it.

Polly, I too know about being made fun of for your name.  Not much for my first name Susan, but my maiden name was Cone.  I got "Ice cream cone", "conehead", "conerboner" (that one was mostly for my brothers).

good to see you, sugar! i didn't want to pull the thread back up this week, lfor fear you hadn't seen last week,i know you're a busy lady!

i went to school in middleboro, mass.,at the bottom of the cape. it's the town where the rotary is that gets you onto rte 28 ,the only way to get onto the cape when i was young. i think it still is?

when i was a teen,we used to sit on the grass at the rotary and watch tourists go round and round, since they didn't quite know how to exit the rotary, lol! we would take pity on them and all stand up with a sign that said cape cod in giant letters(or hyannis,or Ptown, whatever sign we had with us that day)and point to the exit when we saw them come around the 5th time,so they could get off properly, lol!

then i transferred schools and graduated from BP votech in east taunton.great school,i learned self confidence there,as the only girl in all my classes. 🙂 good memories!

gotta say, jamie's voice makes me crazy!  but she IS a great cook,so i try not to scratch my teeth, lol!

i really liked daniel too,i hope he fulfills his dreams!

cutter..oh,cutter...i do NOT understand how he made it this far! on my other board, the theory is that they're keeping him for "the drama",because he talks back so much.

willie,i LOVE willie!! his talent is as big as he is! but he needs to stand up for himself with team dishes, cutter should have stepped back and let willie create the dish, they could have won if he had.

salt...with no offense to my oz friends who don't use salt, sometimes it IS a gamebuster. too much salt is close to impossible to fix, unless it's a sauce. and not enough doesn't cut it on this show either. yes, we all know you can salt at the table, but the goal here is NOT to need extra seasoning,as far as i can tell. just watching daniel,i knew there was too much,i felt so bad for him!

i have to say,i've never had a souffle come out as high as theirs did, except for potato souffle! they were gorgeous!

i think poor jamie will end up tossed soon, and probably willie too. i hate that thought!

i think the final 4 will be christian, leslie, elizabeth and courtney.

what's your prediction for the final 4?

p.s.,i think i would have rather grown up as polly than barri,at least nobody's parents thought you were a guy, lol!

OK, my apologies all, I just worked out that this is a thread about American cooking shows. Just shows that I really am slow on the uptake.
