So now We are One.

So now We are "One". What does that mean?

Does it mean we now recognise we are a multicultural society and do not support racism? Does it mean will will no longer discriminate between the ethnic races? Will we advocate for financial equality for all Australians where people do not get extra benefits because of their race? Will all Australians take the knee when white, black or ethnic Australians suffer a wrongful death because all lives matter? Will the historical resentment and hate heal?

Somehow I don't think so.

So now We are One.

Depends on whether you are talking lineage or citizenship.

My lot first arrived in Australia in 1825.      Last to arrive was in 1853

They were -  English, Scottish, Irish and Chinese.

167 years of generations born here.........am I not Australian now?

I  guess, but I am an Aussie citizen, not born here. Even as a citizen of 35 years, I still have to declare 'Place of Birth' on official forms.

I have just always believed you are the nationality of your parents/grandparents and so forth. My son for instance is Australian as his father is half aboriginal, but I still consider him as part Kiwi from me.

'Tis a tricky one  Smiley Wink

So now We are One.

That's kind of your lineage.

The place of birth determines your citizenship - some allow both.

As for the Royal Family - no chins - all related - married into the Houses of Europe - don't even need a Passport - let alone a Visa.

Even the modern Danes are half Aussie. lol

Now I am confused. You wrote in message 18...

"Before any anthem can be considered there needs to be a re-discovery of actual history. There also needs to be an awakening. People should know about the conquorer and who and what they really were."

Do you really think the indigenous people are upset about British history involving opium and plundering? They are upset about their history where the "conqueror" invaded their country, murdered their people and stole their land. And they are equally upset that some current Australians are proud to be associated with this history and feel no shame.

If there needs to be an "awakening' then we need to focus on "actual history" and recognise what and who the "conquerors" really were. We will never be "One" if we cannot understand Australian history from the experiences of the indigenous people.

You shouldn't be confused and I doubt if you really are! I'm not suggesting that indigenous Australians should concentrate on the Brits opium dealing and plundering of other countries. I'm saying though that the "here and now" is the issue!

The awakening, the realization of what the Brits did in invading other countries, genocides, slaughter, narcotics peddling, enslavement, all for the benefit of a select minority is for non-indigenous Australians. If they see things for what they really were in the true historical sense without the manufactured pleasant veneer they may wake up to a few facts. Then they may begin to realise the plight of the indigenous Australians  At the moment many non-indigenous folk have a warm and fuzzy,  nice and sweet view of how this land was colonised / invaded.

When history is told properly, then people can deal with it correctly. People like Hanson, Howard, Reith,, Ruddock etc., etc. represent the arrogance and stupidity that masks an ongoing genocide of indigenous Australians.  Rudd and Turnbull, if they succeeded would get rid of one of the tools for the masking, namely Murdoch!

This thread seems to have taken a turn...somewhere.

Are we now talking heritage/lineage or just plain Nationality?

Cos there's a difference.

I think the turn' was in response to the comment
"the royal family are not even British"...
a large percentage of Britain's population is not "even British"...

This prompted  another comment suggesting that the Queen's children are half Greek.

If we are talking citizenship, then obviously the royal family is British, and if we are talking lineage/ethnicity, then none of them is half Greek.

History is told properly, if you read the correct material and do not educate yourself on politicians and the media. The internet is flooded with the truth. I think the average Australian deserves more credit than you seem to give them. I suspect many Australians do know about colonisation and listen to the grievances of the indigenous. But it's what we do with that knowledge that counts. Changing one word in the anthem does not change the past or the present. And using the discussion to attack the Liberal Party, the media and the legal system is unhelpful.

LOL - bit mixed up here.

If both my parents - are Brits - and I am born in Australia - I'm not a Brit - I'm an Aussie - by birth.

Brit - heritage.

The British Royal Family - is all of Europe & Russia - to boot.

Being born in Greece - legally he is a Greek - by birth.

His heritage - (though every other European country include) - does not his birth detract - he was born in Greece.

Where did ' blood ' come into the equasion.
