How many ladies wear stockings for everyday wear these days? I suspect not many

Remember those stockings that had a sort of built-in wide garter?  No suspenders needed.

I recall noticing Princess Diana not wearing hosiery for the first time with a dress.  I tell you, I was shockedSmiley Embarassed

Am I having a false memory or is it correct that stockings & suspenders gave way to pantyhose at about the same time mini skirts came in? Because they, pantyhose, went 'all the way up' as it were.

Thinking, thinking, thinking back,  I left school 1969 where there was only grey school stockings (no tights/pantihose).

I was still wearing stockings when minis came in (but they were only minis due to being above knee length dress).  See Jean Shrimpton.

I seem to recall wearing pantihose 1971-72.   But I still  used to wear stockings that had embroidered flowers (white on white or black on black) up from the ankle on the outer side of the leg.

The best invention was the introduction of  "ladderless" hosiery.

Preference also depends upon what legs you have.

There hasn't been a pair of tights yet that fits.

Stockings can be bought in longer lengths.

Polksadillie, then you have never met a true lady wearing stockings. Because you shouldn't know it if she does. Think of a more elegant time where men would be gentlemen, and women were ladies. Wearing stockings and silk discreetly without showing the whole world.

I wore stockings when I was going out at night up until the late 80's.  During the day I was in uniform (nurse in army) and was given a pantyhose allowance so used to wear pantyhose at work.

My hubby who was also in the army used to nick my pantyhose when he was going on exercise, he could be away for days in the freezing cold (-27) in Germany and they helped to keep his feet warm, he also used to cut them up to put under gloves to keep his hands warm.

I still have 2 sets of suspenders in my draw, which still fit me know.

You missed my point.  I refer to the period after pantihose appeared on the scene.

As do pantyhose. I always bought the Extra Tall ones.

I never wore 'stockings' actually. Pantyhose were available when I started high school in 1970(?). Travelled to school on a bus, away from home 9 hours a day, cold climate, pantyhose/tights were the best option anyway.

Thank you for clarifying your post ๐Ÿ™‚ I mean post-choice too.

Deb, the hold ups or stay ups with the heavy top are still sold. They might or might not stay up!

Extra talls are still too short for me am3. So it's all a bit fiddly.

There might be longer ones in stockings to cater for the men quite frankly ๐Ÿ™‚
