Storm

Can`t remember the last time I experienced such a storm as last night.(Melb) Thankfully no damage done but I was wondering how others fared.

36hrs? Whatโ€ฆ.. with all that money youโ€™re making (or HAVE made) and your remote farm doesnโ€™t have a generator?
Hmmmmm ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Three of them ranging in size from 2.5 KVA to a large trailer mounted 12 KVA unit, but I cant leave them out there ( 250 km from my home ) as they will get stolen.  I do appreciate the fact that you took the time at 4.50 am to share your concerns though.......๐Ÿ˜€

The thieves are pretty bad in remote rural areas. Power back on at around 9.30 this morning according to Text from power company so it was off for a good two days.

I believe you *cough cough*

Thousands wouldnโ€™t, but I do!

Those damn remote rural thieves, they are everywhereโ€ฆโ€ฆ.errrrโ€ฆโ€ฆremote rural! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I can only surmise that you carry those generators back and forth as neededโ€ฆโ€ฆ seriously though, to run a microwave, a smaller one would work as efficient. I know mine does ๐Ÿ˜

Also, surprising that youโ€™re not set up off the grid, with solar! โ€ฆ.food for thought. Even a small travel set up, similar to off road campers. Too easy yet highly effective.

Regardless, 36hrs is a very long time without power. Since you never mentioned a refrigerator or freezer, Iโ€™m also surmising one does not exist on your little hobby farm, but I do feel for those folk who may have lost a lot during that electricity down time.

***I posted from workโ€ฆ. Night duty. Some of us still work, you know! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The most important thing with farm power is to keep the submersible pump working and keep the water up to the stock.  There are several safety features built into the system including auto switches on the submersible pump which activate when the water level in the tank falls to a certain level. This feeds a large 15,000 litre tank on a high stand, which gravity feeds to the troughs. As an extra fail safe I have one large main trough in the center of the farm with a 4500 litre tank mounted inside the trough itself. When temperatures are extreme in summer this one is always available to the sheep, in case something goes wrong further back in the system.

Fridges are only used when at the property, the rest of the time, house power is turned off for safety reasons. Basically everything is set up to be able to stand up to extended power outages. It needs to be as the more remote a property is, the longer it takes to get power back on.

How remote is it ? If I climb the old mill tower, I can see from the farm, the scrubby desert on the agricultural fringes that have never been cleared for agriculture. ( ie, 5 minutes drive from  the boundaries of the settled country ) These scrubby rangelands are havens for Kangaroo, Emu, Wedge tailed eagles and wild, dingo cross dogs.  All of these creatures are seen from time to time on the farm. It is certainly harsh country, but it is also a very peaceful, quiet place with few neighbors, clear starry skies and no-one to else to worry about.

I live close to the city for family reasons, its certainly not by choice.

I have stained ceilings to 4 rooms....bore the brunt of the hail. Once the gutters were full of ice, there was nowhere for the rain to go, so 'backwashed' throughout the house. Still waiting to get through to insurer....40 minutes listening to music, so I give up & try again....as long as everything is structurally sound, we'll be ok

You might call posting on social media work. I WOULD CALL IT THEFT FROM YOUR EMPLOYER !

What you would call it - really doesn't matter.

Do you take a lunch or coffee break - WHICH UNDER WORKPLACE AGREEMENTS - are OK.

Rude much.

" I Posted from work ", not I posted while on my lunch from break from work !

Caught out badly so let the twisting, squirming and back peddling begin !

No - not caught out - why would one state - ' I'm on my lunch break so - now I will post '.

Night shift - where would one go except the caffeteria or lunch room - what ever.

Try harder.

Twist and squirm all you like. Janebabe has already announced she posted from work, not the caffeteria.

Twist & squirm - you are really quite charming.

Just a question - how remote is remote - when ' a remote farm ' - has power to the house.

Lots of crossed wires there. ๐Ÿคฃ
