Can`t remember the last time I experienced such a storm as last night.(Melb) Thankfully no damage done but I was wondering how others fared.

Just a question - how remote is remote - when ' a remote farm ' - has power to the house.
Lots of crossed wires there. ๐คฃ
250 km. from where I live ( near the city ), Around ten km. from vast tracks of scrubby dry country that has never been cleared for agriculture and where no-one lives ( or has ever lived since colonisation ). Basically on the edge of the settled areas of the state. We have power, but mobile phone coverage is pretty dodgy. People often have to stand on a raised platform near the shearing shed and hold their phones in the air to get a signal. I had a fire out there many years ago and could not raise help, ( mobile phone was out of range ) so battled for 3 hours until dark by myself to contain it. Once evening came and the air cooled down, I was able to put the fire out, but it wasnt a lot of fun.
Medical help cant always be relied on. A relative was bitten by a brown snake a month or so ago and no anti venine was available so they simply strapped the limb and where flown to the city. When the wife was giving birth, we had to drive over 100 km through Roo infested scrub to the nearest hospital with birthing facilities. We made " preparations " in case the baby was born on the way.
Theres still some people out there and, basic shopping services and a reasonably active agricultural industry, but when there, I regularly go for a couple of days without seeing anyone.
Hope that answers your question.

I'd say a bit of luck there Twynnie.
Some years ago, next door's guttering got clogged during a huge downpour and the backwash went into the ceiling.....and brought one down!
Lucky no-one was in the room, they would have been seriously hurt. But I saw it later, and the mess from the ceiling cavity was horrendous. The rain mixed with dust and made mud.
Everything in that room had to be tossed out.

Settle down before you give yourself a ferking stroke. And if that happens, Iโm off duty (conveniently)
Sheeshโฆโฆ but feel free to take a screen shot and email it to my employer **bleep**!

Oh noooooooโฆโฆ I know whatโs itโs like to have rain on the inside of your house, it is most certainly not a pleasant experience, but grateful to know you are all ok, without personal injuries.
I also hope the Insurance mob donโt give you the run aroundโฆโฆIโve read some terrible โexcusesโ on other blog sites where insurance refused because owners couldnโt prove gutters were regularly cleaned and so forth. Bloody scum mob they can be.
Best of luck mate, hope it all goes well for you ๐

Rude much.
Aweeee donโt worry too much about him, heโs got his girl panties in a knot because I called his rural remote acreage a โhobby farmโ ๐
Thatโs the thing about social mediaโฆ.. folk can exaggerate as much as they want, and unless you are personally known to others on here, who the hell would know any different. It does amuse me though that all of a sudden, his wealth status and property status has come โout of the woodworkโ as if he is a peacock spreading his feathers to show stature and dominance ๐

We only just got our internet back today.
I don't think our power went out at all. I heard some wind but slept through most of it.
Next day, my husband was on phone to telstra to check why we had no internet. The girl tried everything for about 30 minutes and could not understand why it wasn't working then she discovered it was out for the whole area.
So then he wanted to know when it would be back and I think to get rid of him, they offered 6 month free phone subscription to make up for it as it wouldn't be back till Nov.
We have a somewhat dangerous looking gum in the back yard. It is very high and has this heavy branch that sticks out sideways. I have visions of it cracking and hitting someone. But do you think the wind brought it down, No, not at all. I'll have to pay someone to do it.
My daughter had some branches lost from the tree on her nature strip. One landed in her back yard. Lucky it must have sailed over the roof.
I really missed my internet. Mobile phone was out too for most of first day but came back. There are so many things you can't do properly on a small phone screen though.
