I agree. I remember reading a story years ago that started off bad but ended OK.
There was a guy that didn't like his wife's cat. He decided to dump the cat somewhere. The cat came back.
He tried it again...same result.
The next time he drove out so far into the wilderness that he got lost. He ended up having to follow the cat home.
Not only did the cat save him, he realised that while cats were (in his option) not as good as dogs, they were a lot smarter than he gave them credit for. The cat stayed and was a loved pet of the whole family....even that guy.
