People today are so easily offended.
Its something we see on a daily basis on here from some, people constantly state that they are offended by this or that or this post or that post and it’s something we see on a daily basis in the real world and on the news. Someone always seems to take offense to minor issues and free speech and has to tell the world and tell us all that they are "OFFENDED" or take "OFFENSE" at this or that
One of the lessons that most of us learned at an early age was, "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." When I grew up it wasn't called "bullying," it was called teasing and having a bit of fun at each other’s expense and we grew thick skin from it and got on with life. NOW so many people are offended by so many minor things.
Maybe today's world and the soft***** (soft roosters) need to grow a little thick skin and stop being so easily offended by everything.
So thoughts, are some to easily offended and take offense to everything.

I'm afraid that voicing your opinion, and stating that you find something unacceptable, is also imposing your views.
It is, after all, a two way street.
But not everyone sees it that way, especially the PC crowd who think everyone should adhere to their views.
I am happy for them to have their PC views but not to be told I have to adhere to them (all).
You see it all the time, want to "ban this, ban that", just because they don't like it or it's against there ideals.

OK, if somebody throws a rock through your window and you get upset ........ that is your fault?
If somebody tells you that you are fat & ugly and everybody laughs behind your back, and you feel hurt and upset ............ that is also your fault?
If somebody you trusted betrays you, and you are upset ............... you can only blame yourself?
NO, nasty people going out of their way to insult and hurt others, are despicable, and those doing it in media, be it press, radio, TV or Internet, are also creating or exacerbating problems in community. It should not be acceptable.
I didn't say anything about fault...it's about ownership & not laying blame

Muslims and how they treat women and make them dress and not allow them to be educated or drive ?
Yes, in some countries women still have long way to go, and not only in Muslim countries. Muslim women in Australia and 1st world countries are not forbidden to drive and they are definitely getting educated. Actually, i might be wrong but I cannot think of other country except Saudi Arabia where women are not allowed drive.

Nothing wrong with saying you find something unacceptable as long as you don't expect everyone else to agree and change their position to match yours. On a forum if you find something unacceptable or offensive you can simply not open that thread or skip past what a particular poster writes. In real life that is often possible too.
Lets take a certain religious poster here as an example, almost everyone here disagrees and is often offended (with very good reason) by that posters views and what they say. Instead of ignoring said poster he gets massive attention & cries of outrage and the threads stay at the top of the page, often for days, which just creates more offence and outrage.
Now personally I'm not offended by that poster, but I don't want to encourage the tripe so I rarely read them and I don't post on his threads. And I sit here wondering why the offended and outraged don't do the same.
I guess what I'm saying is, be as offended as you like, but realise that sometimes voicing that offence often serves no purpose other than to encourage the beast.

Very true statements.

So if being offended or finding things unacceptable are eliminated from the forums I think the threads would become very bland
and boring. Lively discussion (as on this thread) and disagreement are what they are about, imo. Let's be offended all we like and voice it, as long as it's in the spirit of debate and not hostility .
(not directed at you aps just a generalisation).

I think a lot of people (not necessarily on here) use that expression in an attempt to make their ill manners and lack of social graces someone else's problem

I'm all for being offended by racial vilification, religious fervour, pedophilia, rape, murder, etc, etc, but...I think the real question is - what do we do about the offense? Do we take issue with it? or do we meekly turn the other cheek - all the while complaining that we think it's offensive? And look for the next Outrage Busstop?
