Hey everyone...
So, we all know theres an election coming up!
September the 14th is the big day. Like mentioned, plenty of time for us all to plan for that date.
Also means its going to be a looooooong campaign.
For the peace of the board, so everything else doesnt get pushed down by debates on policies and dirt and gossip (and digs at each other personally) etc, can we at all perhaps try to contain as much as we can in a thread much like this?
Theres bound to be plenty of healthy debate (particularly by a few members well known for their strong stance and support for a certain party) and its always easier to follow it etc in one place.
Should be an interesting year ahead! I know I for one am looking forward to it!

hahaha.. it looks like Gillard didn't tell her own cabinet about calling an election but she did call up the independents and the Greens and tell them.....
nice to see how she treats her own...
People like her eat their own......and in Julias case back stab her own......
A quote from Graham Richardson today:
Tony Abbott can now plan his campaign with a certainty that no opposition leader in our history has ever had.
The spending of every dollar, the appearances in every marginal seat, the fundraising, the advertisements, the timing of every policy release (they may lack detail but they will be called "policies") - this is a gift to the opposition the like of which we have never seen before.

I also believe that even if McClelland resigns from parliament & Thomson is charged she does not have to have by - elections, she can just parachute anybody in to save her Green/Lab alliance.
I also believe once she lodges the papers with the GG the govt is then in caretaker mode so any or all of her promises of NDIS & Gonski will be shelved.
I could be wrong on this so I'll appreciate any comments on it.

She had been in consultation with Windsor & Oakshott for weeks before the announcement.
I notice cranky Bill was livid yesterday.
It looks like she is doing exactly what she shafted Rudd for, not consulting with any of her cabinet or executive.
Double standards are her stock in trade.

It never ceases to amaze me when I read "the real reasons" anyone does anything in politics..... almost like psychics, they are, lol
on โ31-01-2013 09:48 AM
not psychics, news ltd readers. andrew has a thought for every situation (and every one is negative and mostly wrong)

Blaming News LTD or Bolt is ludicrous.
People have a mind of their own & can make comment without being ridiculed by the ususal suspects.
This thread was opened because the OP wanted a sensible debate & not the usual name calling & ridiculing.
If you have comment on any post then that is what you should comment on. Playing the man & not the ball is the reason this thread was started.
Obviously many don't like what they read & try to blame newspapers & bloggers instead of sheeting their comments on to where they belong, the election & why it has been called so early.
An educated comment on the crux of the comment please not mindless twaddle, that's not too much to ask.

my comment was in reference to 'mindless twaddle' look at the Herald Sun . its a textbook of mindless twaddle.. certainly not a 'news source' but a cheer squad's guide book. a joke.

Obviously you read this mindless twaddle so you should know. I have not read it, my comment is my own.

I thought you would be happy that this decision has been made, given Richardson's comments ? A free kick for the Opposition ?
But others say that the decision was a cynical piece of political opportunism to shore up Ms Gillard's relationship with the Independents ?
So what is it ... are you happy with the decision or not ? If you are, then good for you, if not, I humbly suggest you accept that the decision has been made and move forward.

I wonder if mr rabbit's ban on liberals' use of social media comes into effect today. What a silly, archaic rule :^O
