Hey everyone...
So, we all know theres an election coming up!
September the 14th is the big day. Like mentioned, plenty of time for us all to plan for that date.
Also means its going to be a looooooong campaign.
For the peace of the board, so everything else doesnt get pushed down by debates on policies and dirt and gossip (and digs at each other personally) etc, can we at all perhaps try to contain as much as we can in a thread much like this?
Theres bound to be plenty of healthy debate (particularly by a few members well known for their strong stance and support for a certain party) and its always easier to follow it etc in one place.
Should be an interesting year ahead! I know I for one am looking forward to it!

Donkey vote like the rest of us who don't like any of them. And let your kids vote whatever they want.
Yeah kinda of thinking of doing that but I feel I need to vote.

Julia Gillard, bless, had to be kidding when she said it was business as usual even though she had called an early election?
Its dominating the news...these forums etc
Is this just an initial surge because its new news or is this something you think we will have to endure until September, at least?
Is it just because parliament has resumed for the new year? Bit of both maybe?
So far today I have heard LOTS about Hockeys weight...I shouldnt be surprised at peoples personal digs at him but I am all the same, Abbotts leaked emails and yesterdays speech and how good it was....even though it seemed pretty usual to me...if not unprepared, Julias glasses.....still, how angry Bill Shorten is.....even though every interview I have seen or heard he appears otherwise, Rudd v Hockey....amusing as it may be and as you can imagine....LOADS about Thomson...again.
I do find it odd how some people claim to not want to pass judgement on Thomson because of innocent until proven guilty rules but on the same hand those same people happily condemn other accused criminals that have yet been found guilty. Rapists, murderers etc.
Im not saying if he is guilty or not but I have made my own judgement on whats been put before the public (perhaps that makes me a bad person) and it will be interesting to see the judgement of the courts. I hope I am proved wrong.
On a good note, I havent heard much of the typical "bad" news consisting of tragedies and death etc!
Oh how I love a good election year!

I honestly can't see the problem in "naming the date". We all knew there had to be an election before 30 November 2103, so this year was always going to be one long campaign anyway. The only difference I can see is we have a definite date rather than just "later this year".

If I were President of Australia, there would be NO private or Union funding permitted for election campaigns. Each party would be permitted - out of public funds - ONE 30 minute TV policy broadcast, on a station of theirownchoosing, ONE full page newspaper ad - in a paper of their own choosing, One five minute TV ad per candidate, $2,000 per candidate, for mailouts and as much doorknocking as their little leggies could handle.

you would also need to outlaw all of those phoney 'institutes' and think tanks like the IPA.

Thank goodness we don't have a president and we don't have a dictatorship, we do have free speech and a democracy.
