Re: The end of the checkout?

In my local supermarket there are always people queuing to be served by a checkout operator. We resist attempts to drag us away to the self serve section. Some of the checkout ladies in this store have been there for over 30 years and know many customers by name, others are students. Some people need these jobs as a launching pad for their working life, others need these jobs because it is what they can do, and possibly actually enjoy doing.

I overcame the removal of checkout operators at target by letting the store assistant do everything for me. I was so angry at the human removal I was about to dump my pile of socks and shop elsewhere.

Re: The end of the checkout?

Won't happen.

If the big ones do it then the other supermarkets will make having checkout service their selling point or a chain will open to cater for that market.

Thinking of all those mums that fill 1-2 trolleys every week or two, they don't want to stand there and scan all their items after having done a major shop. They will go elsewhere with checkout service.

Totally agree

My little town has only has IGA, cant see it happening there   ..... I mainly shop at Aldi, cant  see it happening there either  ..... For the few things I buy at WW/Coles, I always use the SS checkout, so it really wouldnt make diffence to my shopping

Re: The end of the checkout?

I shop on-line every week, so at least someone is employed to be my personal shopper.

As well as the truck driver who delivers it.

Re: The end of the checkout?

I refuse to use the self check out that takes people jobs.

Told one guy in a shop who asked me to use it that I did not work for his company and if I use it he will have to pay me

I think that's the point. SS is very convenient if we only have a small number of items. But when we have a trolley load the assisted checkout is very helpful. And they place the items in our bags for us.

Aldi dont bag my items but it doesnt bother me, I just wheel 'em out n load 'em into the bags/esky in back of the car. That way they are bagged the way I want them to be, not everything lumped in together for me to need to sort out

Re: The end of the checkout?

I put my stuff on the check out in order I think they should be packed,

Ok I am OCD.

All the cleaning, Shampoo stuff together, all the packet stuff together and last the bread and crackers  because I dont want them to be flattened
