Sorry to interrupt your no politics idea but I still find the subject important and want to rant...
How dare Gillard make abortion an election issue... There is no way that is acceptable and to even suggest that the Coalition will remove your right to one is scare mongering to the max.
In this modern day time it is incredibly important that we don't use these topics to inflame a false war.
Even if a person in any party did not like the idea of abortion there is no way that they would get the support to make it illegal. Or limit your access to one... or even make you feel bad for having one.
So if Gillard wants to launch a campaign called "Labor Women for Gillard" then fine... but don't pull out the gender card and make something out of nothing..
And personally I find it sexist to have a women's only group calling for women to support Gillard.
I have two sons and I also want their future to be positive and not forgotten but it seems that this PM only want to think of the future of women.

I dont want to live in an Australia where the legal reproductive rights does not include the father

I never said that abortion is a form of contraceptive... ?:|
I do not think that abortion should even be a thing you can pop down to the local doctor and arrange just because you are pregnant either.
Abortions can be fine for some women but others it can leave them emotionally destroyed. I have had several close friends that have said they have gotten abortions when teens and have lived to regret it.
It is a HUGE procedure to go through and needs to be very carefully considered and lots of support given to the women that have one.
Who in their right mind would think that any government would stop them from happening even if there are some in their party that think they should be even more restricted.
And I am still waiting for any information that this is a Liberal policy to do that.

I have not seen any anti abortion advertising... maybe it is only in big cities... but can you please show me where the Liberal party have released any anti abortion adverts.. I am yet to see them.
Where did I say Liberal Party anti abortion advertising?
We have anti abortion ads all the time. They were on TV last night.
Eric Abetz was very recently talking about abortion. Cori Bernadi is a religious zealot, who does not believe in abortion and wishes to impose his views upon the community.

we have seen the threads here haven't we ? those quoting the number of abortions in Australia per year and referring to it as Australia's shame or something like that ?
did Tony Abbott refer to Kevin Rudd as un Christian as he didn't agree to a ban on overseas abortion aid or words to that effect ?
Tony Abbott has made the issue political in the past .
28 April 2013, 10.15pm ESTRU486 hits Abbott – again
Yet Abbott is still stuck with his 2004 sentiments in his address titled “The ethical responsibilities of a Christian politician”, to be found on his website.

FN I suggest the Sisterhood note abortion law is a State issue, also this is incorrect:
FN: "People seem to think abortion on demand is legal.
It is NOT."
"Abortion is the subject of criminal law in all Australian states and territories, except the Australian Capital Territory. Each state and territory has legislation prohibiting unlawful abortion. Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory have legislation in place that provides a statutory explanation of when an abortion is not unlawful. In the other states, common law interpretations of the Crimes Act or Criminal Code have had the effect of making lawful abortion available to a large number of women."
Victoria: Legal to 24 weeks. Legal post-24 weeks with two doctors’ approval.
ACT: Legal, must be provided by medical doctor.
W.A.: Legal up to 20 weeks, some restrictions particularly for under 16s. Very restricted after 20 weeks.
Tasmania An abortion law reform bill has been passed by the Tasmanian lower house in April 2013, and is awaiting debate by the state's upper house. If passed it decriminalise abortion on request to 16 weeks gestation, and after that point if two doctors approve.

Iza.. unlike the people in the Labor party the Libs do not try to hide their past opinions.
Tony Abbott has made comments recently.. go and google those and find out what he said.
He also had reservations over the abortion drug due to it's need for more testing from what I believe...
I looked into this when I was made aware of the argument and I came out happy with the decision he made at the time.

What is TA/ LNP view on gay marriage? I know that is not the topic but it has been mentioned in this thread JG is playing that card wrong, so I wonder does TA hold the same opinion or different than JG.

I think that the stance on gay marriage is that they went to the election last time with one position and that is the way it will stay until after the next one and if the new caucus wants to have a new stance then he will support that.
I think because of his sisters situation he is slowly changing his mind.... it takes a while to change entrenched views...
Took me a few years to change my opinion and I am now a convert... so I think he will change his mind too.

I didn't say anything about state laws. My comments were based around abortion not being freely available to anyone, anytime, everywhere in Aus.
Where they are legal/decriminalised there are conditions attached.
