The overdue Purge of the Labor Party

I've just returned from an overseas trip and the folk there are shaking their collective heads at the way in which our government can so successfully manage our economy through what has been described in the past as the worst global financial crisis since the great depression approximately 80 years ago.

These people are in awe of our governments abilities and the way in which it navigated our nation through it. And now the good folk overseas witness the implosion of this so much revered government into chaos and disunity.

I have been watching the events of the last few days on T.V. whilst overseas and stepped off the plane today to hear of mass resignations of Whips, Secretaries and Ministers.

I see this as a PURGE by Labor to finally stop the constant infighting. Getting rid of the Rudd supporters who were constantly undermining the Gillard led government. Even Rudd himself has stated that he will no longer seek leadership. " Not under any cirumstance."

It was Rudd and his supporters who were leaking things to the press. Trying to undermine and cause instability to his own party because he was removed from his Prime Ministerial position caused by his own doing.

Now the new phase will be that the Labor party will huncker down and focus on the nation, it's policies and focus outward away from itself. The bloke opposite Ms Gillard ( Mr Abbott ) needs to be the main focus of the Labor party because he is found wanting in a plethora of areas.

The fund Abbott established that steered Ms Pauline Hanson to jail must be investigated fully.

The thuggery of punching walls in his youth needs to be addressed.

The disgraceful negativity that constantly undermined the Australian Government to meet his own greed. This is a form of passive thuggery in my opinion.

No need to ask for links or anything. These words are purely my opinion.

Watch out Mr Abbott, when this dust settles a stronger, much more unified government will emerge.

I shudder to think of Mr Abbott in the lodge. He will throw this nation backward 30 years.

it's good to be home.:-) back to the lucky country.

Re: The overdue Purge of the Labor Party

ok, this is my first time at entering one of these Political threads (and probably my last) so be gentle with me.

I am hmmm bemused perhaps, by the statement this government has led us through the biggest global financial crisis. It's lucky that Little Johhny managed to put this country is such a good financial postion so Krudd et al had the funds to weather the GFC.

Lot's of other countries were in a 'good financial position' at the time of the crash but somehow managed to fall into a heap  when the crunch came. The trick with getting through it was strategically thinking your way through it early instead of trying to recoup when it was too late.

I suspect that the Coalition (as was evident by their conversation and criticism at the time. And still.) would have done what the rest of the world did - act conservatively, see what everyone else was doing and wait until it was too late to salvage anything.

And I agree with the OP - when I travel people look at Australia as the country that sailed through the GFC while the rest if the world scrambled into a mess. We should be proud of that.

A parallel to howard's "good financial position" is a parent having a huge bank balance while his/her children are hungry and wearing threadbare clothes.

As much as the Labor party & what's left of her front bench try to move on nobody will forget yesterday when they gave up all responsibily to govern Australia.

Gillard & the Labor party are finished, no one will listen,   Rudd is still there, lying through his teeth trying to cover himself in "what? who me!!" innocence "I'm a man of my word". In his blind narcissitic mind he thinks no one will notice.

He is a malevelent force, Gillard is tied to him forever & they will both go down on the HMAS Gillard/Rudd/Labor Party.

I bright shining light in this dark and gloomy political FLW (now known as four letter word) , You are correct in what you said and even the other side MUST admit you are correct as the proof is there, it is real, it did happen but some will try to turn it around so this government is seen to be responsible for the way we are surviving at present.

A strong surplus was created by Mr Howard etc only to be squandered away, even with the mining boom this government has gone backwards and taken us with it.

Keep it nice, I might cry if you write anything upsetting (like not)

I suspect a lot of the somebodies or nobodies will not remember next week, another lot would not even have noticed and another lot would not care either way.

silversophie gets on here exclaiming that we all hate Gillard and all hate Labor, that we all want them gone, bal, bla, bla...

and when we don't agree she starts swearing at us and accusing us of having brown matter in our head where our brains should be.

It's rather amusing.

Mr Abbott will destroy anything and anyone who gets in his way to be the next Prime Minister. He is a ruthless thug who only has eyes on one prize. The lodge. The country and all who dwell here are secondary to his needs.

Sadly, you are right.

They're not campaigning in their own right. They're out and about talking off getting into power by way of a no confidence motion.  Surely some policy is more important than just getting there by indulging in the world's biggest ever hissy fit.
