Okay.
I'm assuming it is okay to post about the different names of everyday things.
I couldn't remember what the Australians call a valance. It's a pelmet. I just learned that one last year.
What else?
Trunk-boot
cilantro-coriander
Pullover sweater- jumper?
undershirt-vest?
cookie-bikkie?
Do you call potato chips-crisps?
We call rubber sandals-thongs in California. lol. Weirdly enough, we call those string undies, thongs, too. It can get confusing.
I once told a Scottish friend that she could borrow my thongs, if she wanted to go to the pool. She gave me a look of horror.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Then we have the cordial, soft drink, fizzy drink variations. Who calls soft drink cordial?
Oops, I think the Americans call it soda pop.

We used to have cordial as kids. Foul stuff.. colouring, sugar, fruit flavours (no fruit in it though).

I still have cordial 😄
I'm a bit fussy about which ones I buy though and avoid those with a long list of numbers in the ingredients column. I often make my own lime cordial. Yummo.

My Husband used to buy bottles of the Lemon are Barley Water, the grand children used to call it Grandads drink.
I still like Roses Lime over ice on a hot day.

I wonder about that too. I never met anyone who wanted a pickle with their lunch, yet some places serve it with everything. And if you get it to go....they wrap it next the sandwich, which invades the sandwich.
And ketchup on eggs....why? LOL.
Miracle whip.....Horrible!

I think ketchup is tomato sauce here. Does that sound right?
I thought it was a McDonalds thing to put a pickle in everything. Almost everyone removes pickle before eating the burger.

Ketchup is tomatos sauce with stuff in it, lol, I don't know what. Although, It doesn't taste like tomato sauce.
All burger joints (McDonalds, Burger King, etc.) put ketchup, pickles, and onions. I rarely eat them, but when I do I ask for it without pickles or onions.
Down South they put mustard on them.
And once in a while I'll put Freetos (corn chips) on a sanwhich. We call the long bread sandwich a Hero.
I like Heros, lol.
Edited to put that face in a spoiler! (and to spell editted correctly)

My 2 favourite aussie words are:
Track pants or trousers = Trakkie Daks or plain Daks if you are going somewhere special
and Clacker. But I can't express what that means here so you will have to google it.
A my favourite saying is "spit the dummy" for a tantrum.
