This or that

Okay.

I'm assuming it is okay to post about the different names of everyday things.

I couldn't remember what the Australians call a valance. It's a pelmet. I just learned that one last year.

What else?

Trunk-boot

cilantro-coriander

Pullover sweater- jumper?

undershirt-vest?

cookie-bikkie?

Do you call potato chips-crisps?

We call rubber sandals-thongs in California. lol. Weirdly enough, we  call those string undies, thongs, too. It can get confusing.

I once told a Scottish friend that she could borrow my thongs, if she wanted to go to the pool. She gave me a look of horror.

what about that word 'broil' what does that mean??

Re: This or that

Blerk, richo.

Broil means to put a flame to the meat.

My oven comes with the regular setting, and a broiler. The broiler is located in the top part of the oven(inside). When I put that on, the heat is very high, and things can burn quickly. I don't use mine very often. I'd rather BBQ if I want to cook with flames.

Re: This or that

What is a kecap manis?

I do cook the turkey with garlic, ginger, scallions, a bit of sesame oil, veggies, and hoisin sauce. It is pretty close to your recipe.

Although, I might try it with the lettuce. I do like lettuce wraps.

Re: This or that

Oh, we call broiling 'grilling' I thought it was an open flame, but didnt know if it was on top or under the meat!! haha

kecap manis (pronounced like 'ketchup') is a sweet soy sauce from Indonesia- its very sweet and a thicker consistency than soy sauce.

Know what you mean re bar be que- nothing like that chargrill flavour.

Ive only travelled a couple of times to New York and LA and once we drove to San Francisco from LA..love that drive along the coast..really something..would like to go to Chicago..maybe in the next few years- sorry, youve probably already written this, but where are you?

Re: This or that

Their buns, and probably those of other chains, have had lots of sugar in them for ever.  That is how they ensure addiction.
