Okay.
I'm assuming it is okay to post about the different names of everyday things.
I couldn't remember what the Australians call a valance. It's a pelmet. I just learned that one last year.
What else?
Trunk-boot
cilantro-coriander
Pullover sweater- jumper?
undershirt-vest?
cookie-bikkie?
Do you call potato chips-crisps?
We call rubber sandals-thongs in California. lol. Weirdly enough, we call those string undies, thongs, too. It can get confusing.
I once told a Scottish friend that she could borrow my thongs, if she wanted to go to the pool. She gave me a look of horror.

Youcando, I live close to L.A.(literally in the next northern county) in California. I have driven from L.A. to San Francisco many times. It really is a beautiful drive.
I love Big sur... I'd highly recommend that drive to anybody who visits California.
I always feel sorry for people who are stuck in Anaheim when they visit California. Disneyland is fun, but the city (where it is located)is not my idea of a vacation destination.
I thought Sydney was great, but the blue mountains were amazing.
I appreciate nature. I can only take so much of city life.
Australia wins, hands down, for its beaches. I can't remember where it was located, but we went to a beach not far from Sydney that had sand that was pure white, and was almost as soft as baby powder.

South of Sydney? Hyams Beach on Jervis Bay is reputed to have the whitest sand in the world.

Yes, it looked like that. I don't remember the name of the beach. I just remember sitting there thinking, this is heavenly.
The beaches in California have very coarse sand, and many of them are very crowded.
There is a beach on the big Island of Hawaii that is close... but not quite as stunning.

I stayed with my sister in law in Clayton San Fran.
We went up this Mountain think it was Mount Diablo.
All these huge Spider where crossing the road, Hundreds of them, it was about a week after the Big Earth Quake.
I will have a look through all my Photos to night, I have a picture of a Spider with a cig packet next to it to show size.
Yes I will put it in a spoiler 🙂
We where in Hawaii when the earth quake went off, we still decided to go to San Fran

Which Big quake? There was a big one in San Fran. in '89. Were you there more recently?
I've never seen 100's of big spiders crossing the road here. Yikes.

Thanks for answering tcm..I can imagine you live in a really nice area..
My partner did an artist residency in 2008/9 in Santa Monica for 3 months and my son and I travelled over and spent a month in LA, San Fransisco and New York..We hired a car and drove from LA to SF and took the epic 101! Really had that whole beach boys vibe.lol
I had never been to SF before- what a stunning city- could live there very easily..might sound a bit dumb, but it reminded me of all the best and beautiful aspects of Sydney and Melbourne mixed together..on the drive back to LA, there were very serious bush fires and we needed to turn back, that was pretty scary..I will never forget the smoke over the hills and the Police helicopters hovering overhead, telling people to turn back, and the rangers barricading the road..
I know what you mean re Anaheim- theres so many more interesting parts of LA- but Disneyland is a bit of a holy grail! haha..Ive been to quite a few of them now-Tokyo,and Hong Kong as well..they are all fun and quite different to one another..
I grew up in Sydney, but now live in Melbourne, the landscape (apart from the sea) seems closer to the city here- the skies are really extraordinary..and I think Ive mentioned the food!! lol- love food! When we travel, one of the first things we often do is go to the local markets and check out the local food- I remember a farmers market in Santa Monica which had Mexican food that I had never seen or tried before..it was awesome.
