Re: Time to say goodbye to posties?

Donna - how much in $$ terms is the loss Aust Post incurs on delivering overseas mail in Aust.? If you think that is a major problem you must know the answer to that question.

It is not mentioned in their Annual report.

Re: Time to say goodbye to posties?

It's no secret that letter deliveries are declining worldwide however parcel deliveries are on the increase.

Fahour added that Australia Post welcomes the rise of domestic online retail: "The more Australian retailers go online, the happier we are, because we actually make a buck on that."

Re: Time to say goodbye to posties?

Posties delivering letters (and small parcels up to 500g) is a separate issue to parcel (over 500g) delivery.

Get rid of ALL posties doing daily homje delivery, the parcels will still get delivered by the parcel contract persons.

Posties deliver mainly letters, the volume of letters being sent is declining considerably... are posties going to stay home and get paid on days there are no letters for them to deliver? Or be fully employed to deliver 1 or 3 or 5 letters a day.

Why keep an arm of a business that is loosing $218.4 million p.a.?

No where near the loss on home mail/letter deliveries then $218.4 million.

Funny how people state something but when asked to clarify it, they just reply google it. If you claim the info to be true surely you would know the facts.

If that doesn't get a mention in Aust Post Annual  report where are the figures coming from?

Nobody has said anything different from that here.  Parcel delivery won't  be affected by their loss making letter deliver service.

Aust Post can make huge profits delivering parcels, even if it reduced or went  totally out of deliveries to homes.

Re: Time to say goodbye to posties?

What is the exact figure that  Australia Post looses from delivery of overseas mail then? If you know it, you would post it. Why would you tell someone to research it, in that case? Pretty easy for you to just type the figure to back up your claim.

The article you provided didn't mention any figures.
