A reminder of the debt that Australia has, while Labor can bury their heads and deny it exists the fact remains we have a huge problem with debt and sooner than later the chips will fall, no business, no state and no country can keep operating in the red, eventually those we own the money to will own us. Who will own us?
The state of Qld has debt of $80 billion dollars, Labor are saying they don’t think it’s that bad, Bill Shorten on Australia’s debt, there is no debt crisis, there is a crisis and we are in this situation because of Labor, no one else and the bottom line is Labor can’t fix this problem, their speciality is creating debt not fixing debt.

Christian Scientist religion. This was revealed 5 days ago.

What was the easy to guess religion you thought has maintained an exemption then?

I thought maybe Jehova's Witnesses.

What did you think I thought?

Who knows, apart from you what you thought? I already knew it was the Christian Scientists.

We don't hear much about them. A few decades ago of my Aunts married a widower whose wife died of TB because she wouldn't accept medical treatment. She belonged to the Christian Scientists. Her son had TB to after she died, he was treated for it and lived.

The church does not require that Christian Scientists avoid all medical care – adherents use dentists, optometrists, obstetricians, physicians for broken bones, and vaccination when required by law – but maintains that Christian Science prayer is most effective when not combined with medicine. Between the 1880s and 1990s the avoidance of medical treatment was blamed for the deaths of several adherents and their children; parents and others were prosecuted for manslaughter or neglect, and in a few cases convicted

So how do they get exempt when all other religions don't?

Of course. But I didn't ask if you knew what I thought. I was curious why you asked which religion I thought it was.

How DID they?  The aren't exempt anymore, no religion is.

How did they be the last religion to be exempt. Maybe because, of all religions they hold the strongest beliefs that prayer is stronger than medical intervention?

Because you said it was easy to guess or not hard to guess. When in fact it was the opposite, it was a religion that isn't heard about much. So made me wonder which 'easy to guess' religion you were thinking of.

I wouldn't have automatically thought of JW's if I didn't already know which religion it was.  JW's are against blood transfusions, doesn't automatically make them against child vaccinations

I read somewhere that they were the only religion to apply for exemption.

Yes, glee that appears to be correct. I thought when it was mentioned a few days ago they were going to be the only religion left that was going to remain allowed an exemption, but no, they were the only religion exempt. After that Morrison removed the exemption.

Apr 15

An online guide produced by Mr Morrison's own department clearly states that the exempt organisation is Church of Christ, Scientist - more generally known as the Christian Scientists.

This information is also available on the government's ComLaw website, where an explanatory statement about exemption from immunisation requirements states that "children of practising members of the Church of Christ, Scientist are exempt".

It explains that this "clearly advances" freedom of religion for Christian Scientists as "their religious beliefs mean they may be unwilling to access western medicine".

This is under a determination made by Labor's Jenny Macklin in 2012, when she was families minister. But Christian Scientists have long been seen as a special case, with the Australian Democrats arguing in Federal Parliament as far back as 1998 that the group should be exempt from penalties for not vaccinating their children.

On Tuesday, Christian Science Australia spokeswoman Kay Stroud told Fairfax Media that the church was in fact "very neutral on the subject of vaccination" and did not make a suggestion to followers either way.

Some may say it is behaviour unbecoming of a prime minister. Others have applauded it.

Footage has emerged of the Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, knocking back a large glass of beer in only seven seconds.

It is certainly not something Mr Abbott's political hero, Winston Churchill, was ever filmed doing.

But the incident is not a first in Australian politics - and is not all that unusual for Mr Abbott.

The prime minister was at a bar in east Sydney on Saturday along with players from the UTS Bats Australian Rules football team.

It shouldn't really be a big deal and probably wouldn't be if it wasn't for the cheer and skoll factor.

But we all know who Abbott is and it would be a surprise if he didn't perform for the chorus.   PMing is a full time job and he is entitled to have a beer on Saturday night if he wants to.  Even if it is campaigning.  Playing politics is what he does best.
