Would you allow a 4 year old boy to play with a toy gun?

Re: Toy Guns

I did....with my own, one wanted to, one didn't show any interest, in our family now, we are divided about it.

One grandson has swords, light sabres, nerf? guns, the others don't.

Re: Toy Guns

mine don't appear to be damaged by it either.... the one who didn't play with guns joined the army.... the one who did is a pacifist.

Yes, I did.  Both of them had cap guns at one stage.  They were more for the loud bang that they made rather than used to shoot like at another person.

They both had super soakers and the one where they can score points.  I can't remember what it's called but it was like paint ball but without the paint.

At around four years my younger one chose a cow boy show bag that had a rifle in it.

He loved it to death because it made a funny clicking sound when it was reloaded. Not that it had any bullets.

Re: Toy Guns

When our kids were small, they had reasons to play with guns.... they watched movies about cowboys, tv shows like The Lone Ranger, Zorro..... today's children don't get that.

I can't think of the name, wot a find.  It was this thing around the barrel that he had to pull back and it sounded like a rifle reloading.  I liked it too ๐Ÿ˜„

Re: Toy Guns

I didn't buy guns for my son and discouraged others from buying them for him.  I did let him play with gifted water pistols on rare occasions.

It just seemed wrong to me to have a child playing with a replica of a weapon that could kill people ... a sweet little innocent child saying "bang, bang, you're dead".

However, he would pick up a stick and make a gun toy out of that.

And, now, he plays games on his computer that involve shooting people ...

Katey, they make much better shooting noises than bang bang.  I don't know how boys learn to do those sound effects noises.
