I travelled, today.
Down the black, winding, back road, through the golden tan grasslands, bordered by the back hills that loom dark against the sky.
To one side, there were kangaroos, grey, almost invisible in the shadow of the gum trees, and then the sudden riotous flash of colour as a flock of parrots crossed in front of me.
Life explodes in abundance, around me.
Somewhere an old woman weeps, quietly, inside, afraid of what might be.
All I can do is hold her hand.

I think she's doing the Pommy dummy-spit and leaving this (what did she call it?) god-forsaken wilderness, or some such description and going "home" to the UK, the land of cold and rain and industrial-overpopulated bleakness.
Some folks don't know when they're well off.

The thing is, she is in a god-forsaken wilderness.
She lives in Bourke. Nothing there, except crime apparently.

I wonder how much of this country she has seen?
I lived in the deep south-west of England for a while, way away from the industrial bleakness of the north, but to live well in England, a person sure does need a lot more money than for an equivalent standard of living here.
I wish her well, but I can't help but keep thinking she'll do an Arnie one of these days soon. 😉
