If that is the case, you would not believe any weekly political polls throughout every year, even when they favour the coalition.

You are comparing oranges with apples.  The two questions are actually quite different.

1. Should asylum seekers be taken back to Indonesia?

2. The Federal Government is reportedly set to purchase engine-powered lifeboats to ferry asylum seekers back to Indonesia. If true, would you support this move?

One is simple dogma designed to appeal to the unthinking masses.  The other refers to the detail of the proposal.
