I want to get a couple of turtles, does anyone have any pet turtles or want them. Or is anyone thinking of getting a new pet?

Crikey, I think she said $100, thought about a small tank to start but then we would just have to keep getting bigger ones - think they are called long neck turtles.

That's what we had.
Maybe start small and see if you like the turtles before outlaying $1000 to house them?

They're not like kids that quadruple in size the first year
no idea how old the ones we found were, but the ones from the pet shop could still sit on your hand after 6 years - so maybe a tea cup saucer size max!

Boris, depending on where you live, a turtle will be happiest in an outdoor pond. But, you need to make sure the water quality is appropriate, and that they can go for a wander safely. Brother in law has one, he built it a pond, it has a filtration system and gorgeous plants in it. Five star luxury for said turtle ๐

What about cats and birds of prey?

They also have four cats...they leave the turtle alone.
he used to be in an indoor tank. He is quite old now.
there is no netting on the pond, he is free to get in and out.
I guess think about indoors if you are getting babies, until they grow up a bit.
cats might go for little ones...but he has always had at least one cat too

We pciked up a long neck tortoise or turtle on the freeway one day. Took it home and put it in the pond and it stayed for a couple of years before wandering off to find a lover.
