to me so many are happy to see people die from coward punches has to make you wonder
wonder what their attitude would be if it happened to one of theire familyt members

hoping one of my or anyone else's kids is injured is a problem alright.
all of this talk of 'king hits ' and 'coward punches' is hype anyway. i myself have been assaulted in this way a few times as a young Male . the violence is not new. it isn't as if the current generation of hoodlum is any more skilled than twenty or more years ago. its simply that the press chose to make it story of the month. this is reflected in statistics. they want to make people angry and fearful and it appears to have succeeded.

Not a single person said they're happy to see anyone die from any sort of violence.
What I see are people having a discussion on an age old problem.
Most of the attacks in which people have been killed would not have been prevented by earlier closing times. The most high profile ones have occured much earlier than 3 am. When the footy club that I used to live near closed at midnight there'd be a mob of people outside waiting for taxis and fights were common because there were a mob of people angry about getting shut out "early".

Here in Sydney they're looking into longer operating hours for public transport out of the city. Currently a lot of train services stop running at midnight, which impacts on people trying to get cabs.
Earlier closing times for bars and liquor outlets have been effective in other areas such as Newcastle and Wollongong. More policing and stronger penalties for drunken and disorderly behaviour are also effective.
There really needs to be a concerted effort on the part of communities and government to curb this epedemic of drunken and violent behaviour in cities and holiday resorts. It's Australia-wide and it's devastating.
Pooh poohing it off like: oh it happens all time and has been happening through the ages is not helpful and certainly implies a lack of concern for ppl that have died/ been killed by violence or accidental death through intoxication.
It's spiralling out of control to a point where hospital and medical services are no longer able to cope with the volume.
Would you be so quick to brush it off as inconsequential if one of your own family were to be injured of killed as a result of drunken incident?
People trivialising the issue are part of the problem in my opinion.
