Political threads have their place in social media but I do not think 'Community Spirit' is the place.
The vitriol and nastiness some of these threads engender, leading to claims of interpersonal posts, removal of posts and frequent locking of threads all damage any Community Spirit which previously existed.
Freedom of speech is to be applauded but the current rash of political threads is 'infecting' the spirit of the Community Spirit board.
Does anyone agree with me?
Would anyone else be prepared to communicate with the moderators requesting consideration of this suggestion?
I have.

I dont know if it needs its own board, but keeping it out of other threads would be nice and making it obvious the thread is political in nature is good too. Although thats often easy enough to see by the id of the poster.
But I'm pretty sure we've been through this before and consideration of others isnt a high priority for some of the posters here.
Punch ,you were very much for disadvantaged Australians once..
not so much now ? have your values changed ?
This is actually a pretty good example of whats turning people away from CS in general, I gave my opinion on a topic and was accused of being unsympathetic to disadvantaged people based on something I supposedly said somewhere else.
I could've bit back, but instead I moved away from the computer and occupied my time elswhere, quite productively too.
You move enough people away from their computers by this sort of behavour, eventually they'll stop coming back.
I come here for discussion, it is a discussion board after all, but so often its just not worth commenting any more.

Punch, I don't know if you have noticed the nature of so many post before and after my post but nevermind...
I will try to rephrase my question. You seem quite understanding of this Governments rather extreme measures. Are you more confident with this Government than with the previous one ?
and in your post here you mentioned boredom in relation to political threads however you used to post on political threads quite a bit yourself didn't you? Are you not interested as much now ? and if so may I ask why the change ?

Not sure what that has do to with my post or your response to it.

Completely off topic for this thread, but generally I think all political parties are as bad as each other.

There never were as many political threads as there are now and it seems you remember where I post better than I do, I can hardly remember what I did yesterday let alone any further back than that, but I'd hazard a guess and say if I posted on political threads it would be more about the issue at hand and less about the politics behind it...if that makes sense?
Are you not interested as much now ? and if so may I ask why the change ?
Never have been interested much in politics, I didnt even enrol to vote for many years.
And again, none of that has any bearing on my sympathy, or not, towards disadvantaged people.
Are you implying that only people who post on political threads or vote a certain way can have sympathy for others?
