WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Re: WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

Ebay is slightly glitchy for me this morning. Working normally one second, a bit scrambled the next.

My, my, you two were on the ball early! I expected to be first in here with my results, although K1ooo is often up in the wee small hours, have to admit.

I was pretty lucky with this one. It could have been a lot of other answers, once I sat and thought about it, but for some reason, the answer called to me. I think probably as it repeated a letter and that is just the sort of thing wordlemaker would do.

I had some luck with this Octordle, and even with my final word it could have gone wrong…

With 4R, I nearly played WINDY instead of PINKY.

With 3L, I considered SMEAR and SWEAR as well. Pure dumb luck.

With 4L, I almost played OFFER, but I changed my mind as I seem to recall that it had popped up not very long ago.

springyzone, sometimes the small cold hours are ideal for Wordling…

Maybe it is my computer at fault, everything is a bit glitchy.

I am reasonably happy with this. I did make a couple of mistakes which were reasonable enough, just wrong.

I left #7 till last because it was out of 2 and I was hoping for a clue along the way, no such luck. I had to have a stab one way or the other and of course chose the wrong one to go with.😁

Sometimes I think I'd be better off choosing-then switching!

Spoiler
#3 was my first mistake where I tried QUICK instead of JUICY. It wasn't all gloom and doom though as the K helped me choose out of the 50/50 I had in mind for #8.

Then at the end, I had to choose out of offer or odder for #7. It did not go well.😂

Re: WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I didn’t try the quick option, but that was at least partly due to my wanting to try out Y.

Your final word dilemma was my final word dilemma!

I was pretty sure there was a Y at the end of #8.

Either nippy or pinky.

I wonder if nippy is a term they use in US.

I was reading something amazing (well, to me) on Facebook. A big argument about pronunciation. Apparently Americans think sauce exactly rhymes with cross. They were deriding those who said it could rhyme with source.

I had not realised they say it as soss, but at least I allow that people can have different pronunciations, depending on where they live, and it doesn't make any of them 'wrong'.

my starter was CHAIN, because I was going to a CHAINsaw working bee at the local golf club.  I don't play golf, but the club hosts our LPO and members volunteer to staff the PO.

(still can't do spoilers on mobile, and don't want solution showing before you two lovely posters have posted)

I went off script today as after my first turn, I could think of several words it could be, but I felt I needed elminators that would cut down on a few of the possible letters.

In hindsight, I may have been just as well or even better off to just use my usual 3.😁

My first 3 letters were all eliminators, the usual.

I was left with a hunch about #8, which I went with, though there were other possibilities.

I then started to have a funny feeling about a certain letter that seemed possible in a couple of spots so made sure to try it out. Overall, just an average result but better than some of my past efforts at least. 😁

I would be dancing if my lower back weren’t in such agony… I managed to make it through two meetings and another client, but that’s it; ow.

The reason for the putative dancing…? A TWO!
