a house. Friend has had her house on the market for sometime now and they haven't had even one offer.
So what would turn you off buying a house so we can check and improve her chances of a sale.

@grandmoon wrote:Yes he is very nice. He said he got the idea that her family aren't happy about her selling the house. After I took the curtains down I could see what he was talking about. Tomorrow I will get a couple of friends and we will go and wash the windows for her, and take some more boxes to fill.
Grandmoon, I sold MIL's house last year.
The agent made me take down ALL the heavy curtains and just left clean nets.
The house was so much brighter. People like sunny rooms, not dark where
you have to turn the light on in the middle of the day. Clean windows are a must.
I think I removed roughly 85 - 90 things hanging on the walls.
When you think you have de-cluttered, do some more.
You really need to step back and be critical.
Some good advice given already.

Azure, it is very cathartic to downsize, and it gets easier to do the older you get. We all have too much "stuff" in our houses, and downsizing is a good opportunity do throw out things and simplify your life.

Well, property taxes seem to always be going up. After what happened to me at the last house I lived in for more than 35 years, I'd never buy or own a house, a nice car, or anything of very much value for the police to take away from me again. If someone offered me the best possible deal, i'd turn it down because it's not worth it for me to have anything worth having. I can't even ride a nice bicycle without having it taken from me.

Why did the police take your home? and bike? How do these things happen?

grandmoon, was there an open house over the w/e and if so, how did it go with the clutter gone?

Totally agree re removing clutter, having the curtains etc open, gardens tidy. I recently bought a very old house to renovate, I knew what I was looking for so the over all cond of the house didnt bother me. The house was neat, clean and tidy, lawns mowed etc. and given it's age and the obvious renos required, it still presented very well.

I've been keeping up with your renos on the other thread, bushie....going great guns!! heaps of work done lately.
Life has chanded a bit for me, so instead of the house being done as I'd like it, it's being painted etc to sell. OH and I have separated and the house needs to be sold. Lots going on and a bit stressful atm but I'm sure things will be a lot better in 12 months time.

They happen, or did to me. I'll give you their version as it is probibly alot more believable than the truth. I broke into my sister and her husbands house and barracaded myself in their bedroom. Far as the bike, I was riding it in the middle of the road trying to block the flow of traffic. I'm also robbing customers in stores and breaking into cars in parking lots. Oh, i also drove a stolen car to the bank.
How do these things happen?, Kelly Thomas slipped and fell on his own, the police tried to help him, made sure he got to the hospital. John T Williams?, oh, well he was attacking apiece of wood with a knife. I hate to think what they'd do to me for peeling a patato.

They will be having an open day this weekend after we finish decluttering. The agent came yesterday and was please with the state of the house and feels that it has a better chance of getting offers now.
