What are the Evolutionary explanations for Dumb people?

Why are there so many idiotic people around? What evolutionary advantage do they bring out?

Being taught in school doesn't make you intelligent either. You can just be an educated idiot.

Very ttrue icyfroth! Someone can be well educated and evenn intelligent but if they're a tunnel thinker then they're hobbled.

One of the Rothchild's, no hang on. It was a Rockerfella that said .... "I don’t want a nation of thinkers. I want a nation of workers.”

Ummmm, that's kinda my point. Evolution should really select out the idiots yet there're so many of them around.

Maybe that is because present day society needs them.  Where would our economy  be without all the mindless consumers?  We also need them to perform mindless jobs.

Our government is already saying that people are receiving too much education, and less people should be going to uni\versities.  I actually think that everybody should go to university, get education, because without considerable learning they will not be able to comprehend our increasingly complicated world.   You have to only look how many people do not understand that 5g cannot spread virus, that there is absolutely no benefit to any government in the world imposing lock down or mandating masks, or to withhold beneficial drug (hydroxycloroquine).    That is no other benefit than saving us from getting infected, putting unsustainable stress on our healthcare and causing even worse damage to the economy.  Add any other conspiracy theory.................

She's a good sort, Greta. She seems to be very unpopular with underachievers. Jealousy, I suspect

Interesting to see this old thread resurface, thanks 4chan!

"Australian students have recorded their worst results in international tests, failing for the first time to exceed the OECD average in maths while also tumbling down global rankings in reading and science.

The results were particularly bad for NSW, which recorded the country's biggest drop in both reading and science over the period since Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) tests began in the early 2000s. The state also recorded significant declines in mathematics.

Since 2003, Australia's results in maths have declined further than any country but Finland. Compared with the top-performer, Singapore, the students who sat the test last year were three years behind in maths, a year and three months behind in reading, and a year and nine months behind in scientific literacy."

This article actually doesn't actually pose the question as to why our children are being progessively dumbed down.

Public school curriculums might be another answer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe we should look at those countries, which perform the best.  Finland has been for many years on the top, and guess what; they have only public schools.  NO private ones.  But all their teachers are tertially educated in the subject they teach.  You do not get teachers who majored in English Literature to teach science or math, like we have here.  In Finland (and other similar countries) teachers are also highly paid and respected. The profession attracts the brightest people, and so it should, the kids are every country's future, and if you do not give them the best education, your country will not keep up with the rest of the world.

In meanwhile our government keeps saying educational results have nothing to do with money.  Of course, throwing bit more cash is not going to do it.  You need teachers knoledgeable in the subject they teach, and you need to know how to teach.  I was always top of the class in math, but found it almost impossible to teach my daughter or granddaughter.  I just could not understand how they cannot see how it works.....

I had a maths teacher like that - a brilliant mathematician, but because it was all so simple and obvious to her she didn't know how to explain the basics in terms the less gifted would understand.

I had the same problem in revEnglish lessons. I have an 'ear' for language in the same way that some people have an 'ear' for music - I  knew instinctively whether  a piece of writing sounded right or wrong -  and it nearly drove me mad having to plod through hours of exercises in the use of grammar.

I have to admit though, those tedious lessons stood me in good stead when I eventually started writing professionally.

With regard to Maths when my eldest son started school in 1969 the 'flavour of the month' teaching method for primary school arithmatic was cuisenaire rods - wooden rods of varying colours and sizes that could be manipulated for adding, subtracting etc. The thinking was that  practical hands on examples would make arithmatic  more meaningful to the children than abstract book learning.

It sounded like a great concept, but the problem eventually discovered was that while the children developed great skillin counting with wooden rods they were largely unable to adapt that skill to counting anything else i.e. money, measurements etc.

I think the word you are looking for is brave. Or would you call all those who stand up for what they believe in dumb?
