We had them when I was in school.
I can't remember if they had an effect - I've always found mathematics to be easy. Even calculus. Which cuisenaire rods wouldn't help with. I was doing first form maths in 5th grade. I'm not sure the school was happy about that, but the teacher was, as it kept me from disrupting the class through boredom.
