I guess also depend of the local council laws re putting items out on the nature strip/beside the road etc. My council doesnt allow it, so popping it on FB is much cheaper than copping a fine

The system does cause minor problems when a daggy couch gets left on the side of the road for weeks and gets rained on, but most people do the right thing and clean up the left overs if they havnt gone in a week or two. We also have a few scrappies who pick up old fridges, BBQ,s etc.
All up the system is much better than just dumping the stuff in landfill.

We are allowed 2 hard rubbish collections a year. The council does a collection every month and you have to ring to book if you want them to swing past your place.
We are not allowed to put things on the nature strip though till the week of the collection. Basically, most people pop it out on Sunday and the various trucks come around on different days, depending on what you have eg branches, furniture, electrical etc
So we could be fined if we just popped things on the nature strip or left them there without a booking.
