My immediate reaction is pretty much the same as lionrose.7's.
My logical reaction is that Adrian Bayley wouldn't have been a murdering rapist scumbag if his faith had been stronger and he was at home in bed.
Jill Meagher wasn't the only one he attacked.
1990
In June, Bayley raped a 16-year-old girlfriend of his sister when his wife was five months pregnant with his first child.
Two months later he attempted to rape a 17-year-old girl and threatened to kill her as she walked home from a bus stop. He poked her in the eyes several times and ripped off her clothes.
In December, he abducted a 16-year-old hitchhiker and took her to a remote area before trying to rape her.
1991
He was later arrested and pleaded guilty in June to those offences and was jailed for a minimum of three years.
1993
After being released in April, Bayley completed an apprenticeship and qualified as a pastry cook.
1995
He separated from his wife and she gained custody of the children.
Bayley began a new relationship in the same year and had another two children, now aged 17 and 13.
2000
He changed his name by deed poll from Edwards to Bayley.
2002
He was jailed for 11 years with a non-parole period of eight years for attacking and raping five prostitutes in St Kilda between September 2000 and March 2001.
2010
Bayley was released on parole on March 17.
By this stage his second marriage had ended and he began a defacto relationship in October 2011. He was living in the back room of a house in Budds Street, Coburg, with his partner.
2012
He appeared in Geelong Magistrates Court in February and pleaded guilty to king-hitting a 20-year-old man, breaking his jaw and leaving him unconscious.
Bayley was convicted and sentenced to three months in prison, but then appealed against the sentence. Because he was appealing, he was released from custody until the appeal could be heard.
Bayley was working as a labourer digging holes for piping when he raped and killed Jill Meagher, 29, in a Brunswick laneway off Sydney Road on September 22.
2013
He was jailed for life with a minimum of 35 years on June 18.
Bayley then faced three separate rape trials in the County Court beginning in July 2014.
2014
He was found guilty on July 13, after the first trial of three counts of rape, two counts of assault, one count of false imprisonment and one count of making threats to kill between October 31 and December 1, 2000, at Elwood. He had attacked and raped a then 18-year-old sex worker.
2015
He was found guilty on March 12 after his second trial of one count of rape and one count of false imprisonment after attacking a then 25-year-old sex worker. He had driven the victim from St Kilda to a narrow laneway at Elwood before raping her.
Bayley was guilty on March 26 after this third trial of one count of rape, two counts of indecent assault, one count of false imprisonment and one count of assault after being accused of attacking a Dutch backpacker on July 15, 2012.
